How do you speed up samples on the mpc 2000 xl,like the heatmakers do and like kanye does, also how do you do so without speeding up the whole seguence, coz its just the vocals i want speeding up

You can either sample them like most people have for a loooong time.

That is:
With vinyl, you run your turntable up at a higher speed. 33RPM track at 45RPM speed. This was done back in the day to save sample time. A three second loop could fit into 1.5 seconds. Trust me everyvbody did it. We would then tune down the sample to fit its original speed in the song.

They have done a variation on that.

That's all.

Peace.

Is there any other way to do it on the MPC??????

i think there is some confusion here

you want to speed up "like kanye". There is nothing magic there, any sampler will let you "Speed up" samples - in fact BY THEIR NATURE samplers do that to pitch samples

to do this its easy... you either set a TUNE value (up in this case) in the PROGRAM page where you assign the sample to a pad, or you use the 16 LEVELS mode which lets you trigger the same sample at 16 different tune values with the 16 pads

BTW though you *cannot* specifically target the "voice" - it is not possible.. Not on the MPC, not on the computer, etc... It is an old question that has been discussed numerous times ;) - what "Seems" to be just vocals in songs with samples, is in fact cleverly filtered (EQ) or the producer had access to some individual tracks from the original recording sessions.

I hope this clears some confusion

i meant the overall pitch of instrument I dont know wha the meant. Can you speed up tempo alone? Pithc alone? Togther? Like in Cool edit you can pick what to speed up (pitch tempo or both).

tempo alone: this would be called TIME STRETCH. The 2000xl has this editing feature I believe, the 1000 does not.

pitch alone: this would be called PITCH SHIFT. The 1000 does not have this, but most rack samplers have something like this

Neither of those are "real time" - meaning you have to apply them to a sample in an editing mode - generally (a few odd synths and samplers can do it in real time)

THe original poster's question is about "Regular" pitch+time shifting which is rela-time and is the basic way all samplers tune samples

go to program
select drum 1,2,3, or 4 whichever the sound is in
hit the pad of the sample u want to speed up
go to parameters
look on the upper right hand side and u will see tune
hit open window or just change the value and keep hitting the pad until its as fast as u want it.
Smile
and then read your manual next time
