Help: Akai MPD18 not recognized

I have a problem with my new AKAI mpd18. I have installed the mpd18 editor software. After connecting it thru usb it says new hardware found mpd18.

I started the editor and next is (midiinfo) to select the mpd18 usb in a menu.
However, the menu does not show the mpd18. It only shows:
-Us-428 Port 1
-Us-428 Port 2
-Us-428 Control

The us428 refers to the Tascam us428 i have installed as a external sound cart and controller (USB). I use Windows XP

I use Cubase 5 and also cannot find the mpd 18 in Cubase.


Any help is appreciated!

Try another USB port\cable.
If that doesn't work uninstall the driver,unplug it and then reboot.
After you reboot reconnect it and in your D.A.W rescan your devices.

How do I rescan my devices in my DAW?

I have tried other usb ports and uninstalling and reinstalling but the thing is just not recognized/ selectable in the software menu.

It sucks. I probably have to send it back and try something else. Maybe the Korg pad controller or something... a pad that uses drivers.
 
menu structure to follow is

Devices->Midi Device manager -> Install device

This provides you with a scripted process to install the required device; you may have to create script to install the device or find one on-line to do so.
