how much is the minimun wage for you??? $1000, 1200????
that's the reason so much US companies are going offshore.
Costa Rica is PLENTY of american jobs: P & G, Hewlett, Intel, Alienware, IBM, WU, etc etc etc etc etc etc.
Because they pay $500-700 per employee.
With $1200 per month I could live like a king in costa rica....

Thank you for calling Hewlett Packard Tech Support Call Center, this is M. Balma speaking, how can I help you sr?????

not only that they have people that work there that have no idea wtf they are talking about...i was in there this morning getting my motif rack...the dude had no idea what i was talking about and he shows me a motu rack (idiot)...then i asked him and another guy about external hd and the one dude didnt even know they sold them. i told the other guy i needed either a 160 or 320, and the next thing he said was...how many gigs do i want (hello i jus said 160 or 320)...they are totally clueless about the products they sell...from this point on i will not be dealing with guitar center anymore...the only reason i went there is cuz i have gc card with a good amount of money on it and i needed the rack (already maxed out my samash card buying the m3)...so long story short FUK GUITAR CENTER!!!!

thats funny, lol. For me its vice versa, I work at fye and you wouldn't believe how many dumbass customers I get everyday...ummm...excuse me...can you help me??? (maybe) ummmm, im looking for a song....(we have many...which artist are you looking for?) ummm...i don't know his name but, the song goes: 'du duuuuuuu du duu laaaaa laaa, and the bass goes, boommmm ba ba ba dunnnn'.....have you heard that one?.... (get the fuk outta my store lady...please!)

I didn't read the whole thread, but..... I have been a retail sales manager for over 5 years now and was a salesperson before that. Fading or as it is more commonly called, "Subsidy" is the de facto pay scale at commission based jobs with few exceptions. As he stated, I have had to fire many people due to their not making above the hourly rate. It hurts the company because you are not really making them any extra profit. Ask Ribah82 on here that's my boy and I think he still works on that ****. You have to really suck to only make $100 over subsidy/fading. In four years selling I never once got close. It had nothing to do with age I was 18 and I made like 34000+ that year not even working full time. Honestly whenever I have to deal with somebody that is consistently on or near it, I let the know that they would be better off at McDonald's.... For Real

Please realize that I didn't post here to compare jobs, I'm aware that there are a lot of ****ty jobs but I posted here to spread what Guitar Center is doing.

Please note for those that still haven't noticed from my original post that this is the main part that brings what GC is doing into possibly illegal territory:

On the green screen....

First they have their "Cost"
Then they have the Freight charge
Then they have a "Std Ad Pack"
Then they have "Base Cost"

The first one... "Cost" isn't really their cost, they are making more money on top of this that we are not credited on, and what we are credited on is 10% profit from the "Base Cost" to the sale price. and 2% from the gross sale price.

FYI...
"Cost" is what it cost them to buy it along with the expenses of having employees and shipping and handling the merchandise. Among other things.

lol im literally picturing what you just said and really laughed. I hate when people are dumb like that.

lol...welcome to the world of commission based retail son.

Every electronic's store that's on commission does this. I used to work for Circuit City in the late 90's, and your "fading" was called "Subsidy" over there...

We had a base rate. So say I made $1000 base rate. But say my commissions were $1500 for that period. I only got paid my $1500...

But here's the kicker...

See, subsidy was BAD. If your commissions during the first pay period of the month came out to total LESS than your base rate pay, they would "give" you the money to equal your base rate. So say my commissions were only $800. They would "give" me $200 to bump me up to my $1000 base rate for the pay period...

But if in the second period, I made like $1500 in commissions, they would TAKE BACK that $200 they "gave" me in the first period to bump me up to that base rate!!! But they couldn't take back so much money that it would dip me under my base rate!!

That's how every place that's still on commission works. Get used to it and stop crying...either that or get a real job.

welcome to the world of sales. it's like that in most sales and commission based positions. most people look at it as a straight retail job and expect it to pay the same. they dont have to pay you a penny more than minimum wage. if you cant hack it move on to something else. and as soon as you try to boycott and fight it, they'll have another poor schmuck in to take your place. if you want more money get a degree, sell drugs, find something else, etc.

and i was starting to get worried that i was the only person that didn't feel sorry for this dude. welcome to the real world buddy.

You think that's bad, how u think royalties get broke down on a beat you sell, lol.

Works almost the exact same way.

BWAHAHAHAHA!!!

Okay its not that funny but I just noticed that this guy has an entire myspace page set up to "expose" guitar center!!! And your 30 years old too? tisk tisk tisk.

wow this is sad dude I am 19 years old and I have no compassion for you. You chose to stay at the ****ing job for 2 years. Thats ya own dumbass fault. You should have quit when you had enough money saved up and got a new job. I still see no reason to ***** like you are. You still get a paycheck every pay period with a extra hundred dollars. I would have just put my extra hundred in the savings account and lived off my regular check.

I mean serious you got to get a grip on life you can't take down a company like that. Just suck it up and be a man.

Yeah after a month or so, you know how it is, either quit or make it work for you

It is called draw based commission and it is a regular practice in sales! Comp USA and Fry's do the same shyt!

PEACE

Sorry, let me play a bit of a devil's advocate here...

I don't understand - if you're not happy with your job situation, why not quit? I worked in Silo - a local electronics chain that's gone way of the dodo. They were Circuit City's competitor. We worked on the exact same formula - you have to cover in commissions more than your minimum wage. I worked there long enough to realize I wasn't for me and sent my resume out to bunch of companies. Without formal training or college education, 10 years later I'm making 6 figures and glad that I did work there - it made me realize that's not what I wanted to do for living.

I walk into GC and see the same people who worked there for at least last 5 years - they must be enjoying it. I tried to convert a buddy of mine, who was a GC assistant manager to a "shirt and tie, office worker" like myself - he told me he was happy where he was, making whatever they paid him (probably 50K tops). He then became a regional manager.... and was subsequently ousted. He now works for a big softsynth company as their regional sales rep, making about 2x that.

Now, looking at it from a sales standpoint - some people see it as a sales motivation - e.g., the more I sell, the more I make. GC has to compete with online retailers, ebay, etc., all while paying their rent for "brick and mortar" - so, if they do double dip - it's all fair game. Using your logic, you don't tell your pizza shop they shouldn't be charging that much for a pizza - do you? Nor do you tell the pizza customers that in reality, it only costs $3.00 for a pizza shop to make that pizza. Right?

I guess it all comes down to choices. If you're not happy with your job situation, how your employer treats you, etc - QUIT! There are plenty of minimum wage jobs out there that could be a lot more emotionally fullfilling for you. Many guys I know in GC stay there for the opportunities to network, as many are aspiring musicians. I know several guys who have made some solid contacts and one even got a recording contract out of his GC spot. Him and his bandmates are now moving over to Europe at label's expense and have a rather nice contract to show for it. Of course, it takes talent, in addition to being exposed to some of the "fringe benefits" of the job.

So, bottom line man - I hear you, I've been there, still can taste the sh!t I had to deal with but it made me think and act to improve my life.

I don't wanna preach, but try reading "rich dad, poor dad" to kind of get a philosophy of "business". The first few chapters reaaaaaaaly hit the nail on the head. Hope this experience leads you to greener pastures, mate!

Good luck =)

I know you were not trying to give a real world example but heres an example of markup if he wants to complain. My uncle is an RVP for Dominos.......A plain 2 toppings or less large pizza costs the company.....Drum roll please..... 11 Cents! Think about that for a minute.

..one becaues i didnt order a pizza ....and 2 i dont tip pizza delivery guys either ( why because they get paid by the hour to drive arnd in their car now i do tip waiters ) ............

Oh my god. I'm having the time of my life imagining how much snot, spit, jizz, and ass wipe juice you've consumed in your life! Trust me, if you've ever, *ever*, ordered a pizza from the same place twice and not tipped, you've ingested some of that stuff. You do realize these guys sit alone in their car with your food, right? And trust me, they have very long memories when it comes to remembering someone who stiffs them. I hope you haven't accidentally ingested some venereal disease, you cheap bastard.

And do you have any idea what it costs to maintain a car? Driving around town for eight hours is absolute hell on your car. These guys don't get reimbursed for their wear and tear. They usually don't even get properly reimbursed for their mileage. Especially since gas keeps sky rocketing. People who don't tip are the scourge of the Earth, and I wouldn't blink an eye if someone suggested wiping people like you off the planet. If you don't have the money to tip, then your cheap @$$ needs to go pick up the food your damn self.
