I run Windows 7 on pc. Getting on internet is virtually impossibleft thanks to the above.

any suggestions on software or advice on restoring factory settings would work?

crap cleaner will fix your hijacked registry entries

if it is something far more insidious you may need to go to major geeks and get assistance using hijack this (hjt) to fix the issues

i use avast and ccleaner most of the time, first thing i do is update them then disconnect the network cable. then reboot into safe mode and run both. once the system appears to be clean i plug in the network cable, reboot into normal mode again then run another scan. also look out for add-ons or toolbars which may have been installed without permission as some of them may contribute to spyware

search for "windows defender" on your computer start menu. is a decent place to start. It scans.
