Do you start with keys or drums?

Most of the time: Drums and then the melody here.

Depends on the type of beat I make. If its R&B or Pop, most of the time I like to lay down drums first. For Trap, I always make the melody first, and for samples, I always chop and add a melody if needed.

I find it really hard to start making a track with just a drum loop.. Usually I'd need some more content in there before I can start getting ideas and make a beat that matches my other stuff. I do have a kick drum on almost the whole time though..

i usually use the keys first to plan shit out in my head
then the drums
but it goes vice verse

I like to start with the melody and build the drums around that. If im using sampled drums( sometimes) ill find things that fit with the sampled drums after.
