no namees in particular but the thrift store ill buy allll the albums.... offer them like 5 bucks for a huge stack.. normally end up with a few decent samples
 
people forget this is a picture thread without pictures your words are worthless

Felt so compelled to post this because its also the "digging" section. Found this in my record store a few days ago for 1.99

I FINALLY had a chance to go digging for the first time in forever yesterday. Not anything big but picked up a few things. A big thanks to Captnappy and Gilson for the heads up on the Urbie Green.

Supertramp have some great piano and bass breaks. Jaisu (from youtube) used two or three Supertramp songs in his flips. Real dope stuff.

it has great pianos Ive had it for a few years. that grover washington has an old biggie break on it called Hydra which I use quite a bit as well. that Ojays record has a few samples that have been beaten to death also. I have most of what hes posted Im interested in that joint with the been and that gil scott heron i dont own any gil scott its hard to find in good condition or expensive around here

thats the first time i think ive ever heard of anyone mentioning breaks outside of drums lol. No diss its just interesting how different people see things. They were called drum breaks because it was the part of the song where the beat broke down to just drums and break beats where shortened eventually to the term breaks

Same here. I'm a big fan of Gil Scott-Heron but most of the time anything I find is overpriced or looks like hell. This one has a notch out of the corner but the record is in excellent condition. I couldn't pass it up. I've got a few of his albums but always on the lookout for more.

I thought they were called breaks because the other musicians were taking a little break ;)

But then again, English isn't my first language.
 
some cats, older heads/bboy type DJs, call parts other than the drums breaks
 
and whats wrong with being an "older head / b boy type??? just for that im not sharing my gil scott herons... and the drums are the breaks!! why are they called that? because when the D.J. would play them thats the parts of the song we would "BREAK DANCE " off!!! Now lets be clear thats also the part that we would rap off!! so for all you younger dudes who think that songs you sample are called breaks because of the parts you chop up... Guess again.... Most of the time we didnt even listen to the rest of the song because of the way Hip Hop was structured back then...the D.J. played the beat and you danced LOL... It was like you had 2 turntables and no mixer back then you had to turn one up and the other down to mix...hahaha soon after came needle dropping(especially with 45ives) then what was called "AIR CUTS" because nobody coined the term "SCRATCHIN "yet... and of course as the technology changed so did the way we made music.We all know what happened when they made samplers!! those of us who couldnt afford them started making "PAUSE TAPES" !! and we really didnt know too much about drum machines..(Except for the LINN DRUM but they were very expensive and mostly Record Companies had them) Wait!! we did have I think it was the GLI beat box with the Black and white Buttons and Roland had some joints as well.......So as samplers became more affordable we started taking those breaks and layering them with other records hence that whole 90s hiphhop sound... Point being we didnt consider the other parts of the record as a "BREAK" until you needed something to go with the beat (THINK PANCAKES AND SYRUP). Now people call a song a break because its has something that they used on it but really it was all about the BEAT!!

@gilson "older b boys don't die we just break away" hahaha no offense taken... im surprised did you say you don't have any Gil Scott? I usually find his albums for no more the 2.00 unless some record shop owner tries to mark them up....
 
I myself am heavy into bboy breaks and finding beats..

I have a few Gil Scot records
 
that i can tell by the joints you find... what we do is becoming a lost art and its always good to know some folks are keeping it up...For as you know a lot of people dont understand why we do what we do... This is my get high right here!!! there aint too many things better than digging and comng up with something dope that you can flip.. (WAIT!!! side note: are we talkng about women or beats??!! LOL Peace and good will hunting...
 
New finds. My regular spots have been a bit dry but managed to find a few nice records.

Piirpauke is Finnish folk jazz.
Walt Rockman's Pollution is a library record on Sonoton label. Ambient/dark ambient, something you could imagine hearing in the background of some 70's scifi movie. There's a long break on it too.
