Dear Future producer:

Good post, but the reality is, it's almost as hard to find a rapper who worth giving away beats for free as getting a big placement.

Actually, I haven't been able to find one. They are either :
1) Boring
2) Lazy
3) Untalented
4) Not dedicated to music.

And I think it's getting worse.

that is so true, most of us don't even have the chance to develop an artist, i mean you just can't find real artists, everybody thinks he or she is the next nicki minaj or lil wayne or some other shit, they are not doing it because of the passion, they want to do it because it is cool to do it, since now i was not able to find one artist who was worth working with, i live in austria by the way.

that was honestly the realest post ive seen on fp. not hating on fp i love the forums its just that its almost always the "make a beat get rich" attitude. im glad someone had the nuts to say it. really deep

Glad to see people on FP actually absorbing some serious conversation.

Speaking the truth! "Just a cat who works a 9-5 dreaming of making it big!"

wow...I get stuck working and when I come back FP's got on a pair of slacks and a button up? Bout Got-Dang-Time...

Awesome post... I forwarded this to all that I know in this game of music...

Good post.
But for us beat makers that got bills to pay and gotta hustle that 9-5 i think well keep to the selling beats tyvm =)

I completely agree with this post. I actually got into beat making because a homeboy of mine wanted to get into rap. If it wasn't for him I would have never even started making beats. We've recorded tracks here & there but being basically broke, I'm still trying to save up for a decent mic and speakers. After that it'll be time to grind grind grind. I'm lucky because he has a place for the studio, and the rapping skills. I have the graphic design, beat making, producing, and marketing skills so I figure, while I'm not even thinking of making it big, although there's always a chance, at least we'll get our music out there and sell enough copies to make enough money around the city/over the web.

But yeah, I completely agree with this post.

I should go back to the life that I started with.
But I'm addicted to this music, it's gon' be hard to quit.

No, see THIS is the realest post EVER made.

I'm gonna provide some new testimony. Hope some people are still around to discuss it. I wasted 5 years dealing with guys around me where none of them were focused enough to do much. It was in an area where music had little growth potential, but the right-minded individuals could've done amazing things...

... anyway, in a nutshell, about 10% of the people alive that SAY they can rap are ACTUALLY WORTH working with. This goes for "producers/beatmakers" too. And yes, I've made songs by myself and with others, and even put shows and performances together... all in an area that STIFLED Hip Hop. America is a funny place...

... I'd actually love to work overseas... maybe one day... in the meantime, I learned my lesson, and those 9-5s go a very long way. I've got priorities and people in my life that I care about, and I've lost enough time trying to put together "movements" with bum a$$ ni$$as. Sad to say it, but yeah...

However though, for the average producer coming up now, the whole thread is still knowledge born, seriously. Get a clue, unless you're either doing pretty well in the sales category or you're lucky enough and are about to be discovered next week. In that case, f* you :D

Great info on this one. I wish more people had this kind of mentality for real.. I've been doin music for a long ass time and one part of the article that hit home with me is where it talks about growing with the artist.. When I was an emcee I always wanted 1 good dj/producer to roll with for making songs and doing shows and all that.. Through out the years I went through a lot of them because they either flat out quit or went off to what they thought was something better but only ended up playin themselves.. It's not cause I was whack either, shit I was winning talent contests with my flow, and opening up for big acts like Black Moon and Poor Righteous Teachers (big acts at the time lol)... but what I'm saying is stay loyal to your artist(s)!! now that I'm older and gotta pay the bills, music is more of a hobby for me that I love.. Also, now I'm on the beatmaking side and I'm looking for a good emcee/songwriter/singer/whatever that has the same ambition I used to have and is willing to put in work. Where the **** they at?

I'm going overseas and segregating myself from the world for a year to work exclusively on music. I'll let you know how that goes.
