i thought this would be stickied, that might be the best post ive seen on here

Where is the completed material now?
Still on your hard drive?

Yep got all of the tracks on the hard drive. Still trying to link up with a new artist though. Thing is I got one artist thats making moves out here, keeps hitting me up to come through the lab and then flakes out EACH TIME!!!! Thats the kind of shit that pisses me off and makes me not wanna work with a artist for free.

This is what I'd do.

I'd obtain rights to the material i have. Finish it myself. Push it myself. If the artists show interest, negotiate.

Even if I had to give it away (free downloads)
I'd still have my name all over it.
Especially If its good.

People tend to take you and your time more seriously when it appears that you are moving rather then standing there with your hands in your pockets waiting for handouts.

Feel me?

Ever heard the expression "a rolling stone gathers no moss"?

Twitter me @producersirrcih

ah appreciate that my dude .......thts whats killing the game now...beatmakers who dnt produce! my twitter @producersirrich

So many beats, so little artist development...

Most top beatmakers get a 12-24 month 'run' in the game before fading out. Most top producers get a 8-12 YEAR (Timbaland, Dre, etc...) run in the game and/or become top label execs (Rick Rubin, LA Reid, etc...)

Choose your own adventure

this is a great read n an eye opener 4 cats like myself learnin how much more is involved wit makin beatz....i'm also an artist so i produce myself...n i'm so willin 2 work wit someone so i can say if i really wanna produce artists or just myself n sell beats?! my problem was exactly what was mentioned about sellin beats n makin it big...we all have dreams n aspirations....so i wanted 2 sell my beats cuz of the time invested in makin them n never considered producin someone 4 free !! thnx so much 4 this thread cuz now i get 2 make somethin happen n i know what needs 2 b done!!

I read this again not realizing I read this and replied. This is knowledge.

it is very difficult to work with rappers. especially when you don't have the name/clout to pull the "trust me, i'm so & so, i does this" card.

you'll have a great idea for a song about something and give them a beat plus direction. the second you blink the song has instantly become a weed/guns/its this big type song that means nothing.

in order for you to truly be able to produce you have to have some control over the direction of the record.

I am reminded of the monica/b.cox video we have all seen where monica doesn't even like or trust the song cox is giving her.
ever the professional, she follows his instructions to the letter anyway and a great song was the result.
now imagine if she had gone the rapper way and just been like "naw imma do this my way" or walked away entirely.

not an excuse at all, i still agree with that post above.

Good post, but the reality is, it's almost as hard to find a rapper who worth giving away beats for free as getting a big placement.

Actually, I haven't been able to find one. They are either :
1) Boring
2) Lazy
3) Untalented
4) Not dedicated to music.

And I think it's getting worse.

If you're a producer/beatmaker read this. Please don't hate this a really good post. The best so far.

Great music has come from the unexpected, and usually because of the relationship between two people who shared a common vision. Lennon and McCartney, Andre 3000 and Big Boi (also the rest of the Dungeon Fam). History isn't made by someone selling a beat to someone else online. History is made when passion is put into music and when you listen to the music you can feel the passion. The rest is luck. At least that's the way it looks to me.

Word on that people. To bad that so many ''producers'' (who are actually beatmakers) scream that they're the best. At that moment you have to rely on your music. So at the end it's still your music.
