I would like to submit a track but I would need an MC. I would like to work with someone who is raps about talib, mos, kanye style subject matter as opposed to g-unit,jeezy, etc b/c i think this style would fit my tracks more...

The first steps are to settle on judges and a name for the album, how many tracks, etc.

I nominate myself to be one of the members who has a say in which song are selected. I feel that I generally have a good ear for music and what sounds good.

I also think Cappachino and OsamaPigLatin would be good judges.

And there needs to be rules for the judges, when they are chosen. As you obviously can't have members having the power to decide whether their OWN tracks feature on the CD!

As far as rules for judges are concerned, you guys could adopt a system involving members of the voting panel that would like to submit a track to be required to submit the track anonymously. Have 2 or 3 other people know your track name for proof if it was chosen. But that way you could insure that your track was chosen based on quality. Just a thought.

yea the tracks should be labelled as weird names so you won't know who the producer of the track is so there won't be any bias. I also think this should be free because most people who come across this mixtape will be much more likely to get it if it's free because there are no "Big names" on this mixtape so i doubt it will get that many sales and anyway if it did cost money who would it go to? Also is this going to have samples or is it going to be a sample-free mixtape?
if there is anything i can help with i am ready to help this mixtape, when it's released i could hand it out to people in my school who are "mtv heads" and if they like it they might tell their friends about it and it would be good promotion.

I like this, but I think that "Turn the radio OFF!" is too similar to that other cover which says "Turn off the radio!"

Other than that I like it.

Some other ideas for album titles (just random stuff that I'm throwing out here...) I know these might not be that great lol, dont hate! Just ideas!

I like "turn the radio off" because it is more than a title, its a slogan and a great marketing tool. It demands attention. People will read it and immediately know what we are about. We are about bringing music back to music, and if we are telling them to turn the radios off, then they will assume that we must want them to listen to this CD to hear and understand why. Hope that made sense, but the title is flexible, I like this concept though. Any other thoughts?

I feel you. I think there are a lot of people here that could do some nice cover art.

The cover should stand out. People need to see it and be like "damn! I gotta check this out".

Well if this is going to be sold are samples going to be an issue ?
I'd say no. I can't see this projecting selling over 10k.

I'm just being realistic.

but yet you nominate yourself to pick songs, because you think you have a good ear for music?

Every other no talent sample sheep on this site thinks so too.

and 10k is really not that big a deal to sell. People do that in mixtapes around here. Just depends on the quality of your product and the hustle.

- NOT FREE
Well.. anyone who wants to participate must pay the initial sum to get on the CD. the collected sum will be used for professional CD duplication, cover prinitng and plastic wrapping. I'm talking about $15-30 per producer.

Retail price should be minimised (6-7 bucks) and producers should get their own copies at a discount price of $2 per Cd. Later they can sell it for a larger margin if they want to.

How many units did FOHH move? If it wasnt a substantial number, then we should stick with Plan A and keep this non-profit. We can look into actually gaining revenue from future projects after we gauge the success of this one. We're talking about pushing this on a global scale from jump! We have no major fanbases as of yet, so it would only make sense to push this one as promo only to build that fanbase.

^^^ and there it goes right there. Right what Urban Spirit said.

I tried to tell FOHH, but they didn't listen.

Y'all need to do this FOR PROMOTIONAL USE ONLY!!! Don't try to make a collective profit off of it. It'll never work.

FOHH tried to have people signing contracts and mailing them back in, mailing in money, copyrights and all this other madness.

My suggestion was that someone design the artwork. Then they package all the songs in a Zip file, along with the album art.

The participants can download it. EACH PARTICIPANT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN CD DUPLICATION AND DISTRIBUTION!!!

That way, people aren't sending contracts/money, etc back and forth, and the true nature of the project is preserved...TO GET YOUR NAME OUT THERE.

So if Bigg Rome wants to get his pro pressed up and sell em for $10 a pop, then he'll get all the money for that. And by the same token, if So Foolish wants to just paper sleve and CD-R his joints up and sell em for $5 a pop, then that's fine as well.

Each person gets out of it what they put into it.

This way, you don't incur all of that overhead of people shipping money across the world, and then having to pay for CD's getting shipped to 30 different people, etc. All that shipping would cost more than it cost to get the project pressed up.

Trust me on this one. Take my advice. I kinda know what i'm talking about.
