Cashmoney isn't an indie. It's a subsidiary of Universal.
I'm still relatively kinda young, I'm only a mere 27. I have no children and I'm not married (these things play a giant role on ones life). But I do have an old soul, and I'm wiser than my years. I agree with Rome, most people in my age bracket are totally confused about their life.
My experiences, trust me I've had many, have taught me that self-discipline and fulfilling one's responsibilities are the keys to success. Has you get older you get more responsibilities, and nobody wants more responsibilities. Being married and having children you have even more responsibilities you need to manage. You can't afford to do what you want to do, you have to do what you NEED to do. And you must have the self-discipline to do what is necessary to handle your responsibilities. If you are on a fixed income, you can't afford wasting money and time. I learned this the hard way. I was homeless when I GRADUATED highschool. I lived in a tent and cleaned up at school. It was rough, but I graduated. This was actually the reason I joined the army. I needed to get on my feet. Thing will always go wrong, this is life. But you must have the self disipline to be prepared for these possible catastrophes, that way they are just minor problems, simple annoyances. Live in your means and handle your business.
Now I'm sturdy, I'm not rich. But I'm able to handle all my responsibilities without the stress. I am my own boss, and if I want to take a few days off and keep to myself, I can. Work now, play later.
Now how does equivalate to placements? Simple, focus on your responsibilities first and foremost. then focus on your hobbies. playing music industry on the weekends is one thing, but depending on it is all together something different. It can be very stressful, this industry eats up the weak and the unprepared. Truthfully I hate the music industry, but I'm now kinda stuck in it. But at other times I love it. I have a very bittersweet relationship with it.
The difference between playing music industry and living it, is the clock. if it's a hobby you can do things at your leisure, take your time and have fun with it. But if you depend on the music industry you are always up against the clock. You need to keep doing projects and chasing placements to survive. That is the difference. A 9-5 is a safety net. Without it things are really different.
I'm just talking about my experiences, maybe someone else has a different view.
