"Chasing Placements"

In real life... NOBODY! wants to work a 9 - 5

In real life... NOBODY! wants to have to do music for money

In real life... EVERYBODY wants to be rich and do whatever the hell they want to

Like if music was your bread and butter... you don't want to HAVE TO rely on it to pay your bills... you don't want to NEED another placement... you don't want any bills you just want to make music and ball... you don't even want real life problems...

It's a trickle down type of thing and it goes like this...

HS Dropout doesn't want to work a shytty 9 - 5, that's all he can get though...

HS Grad doesn't like his 9 - 5 either, he wished he had gone to college... he mostly gets pee on jobs too.

College Grad - did those years and is paying back loans from his 9 - 5, he hates his immediate debt situation and his 9 - 5... he gets to look down on the HS drop out and HS grad though cause he makes more... he ain't shyt either and he knows it.

Enterperneur hates getting business loan and running his barely floating business cause the lease keeps going up for his place of business so he hates having to ACT like he's balling more than college grad that has to do 40 hours a week... Enterperneur is almost okay though... if his ballin' brings in another baby mama and baby....child support gon kill his azz. Lol. Seen it.

Successful talent person is tired of being in the starving artist category... trying to cut corners, save money, hoping a rainy day doesn't come... he has talent though so he's good for the rest of his life unless the climate of the biz his talent falls into changes... he still doesn't have to work a 9 - 5 though... he might not have health care or dental or a savings plan but at least he ain't having to work... for real... frugal dudes... getting older, appeal leaving, buying chains and ish... by accident because they still have to "look" the part.

All of these people, no matter how much money they have... wish they could get off of the roller coaster and win the lottery.

When I hear people say "I don't want to work a 9 - 5" I think about people that will waste years going after something and see some success but in the end.... be like Coolio, DMX, Kriss Kross, Coolio or somebody else that achieved high heights and then it ended... and these people won't necessarily become household names like the ones I mentioned... (it's still kinda better than working a job but if you have the right job, nobody bothers you anyway...)

I see some of my favorite old school emcee's on Youtube - the emcee's, you know the front guys that make all the money... and they're still thinking that they have a comeback coming, lol... like the young dudes respect them and give them props but it's mostly weed, drank and riding off that old rappers brand...

If I could get a big hit... I'd go the Warren G route. Buy myself a big ass house and go sit in that bytch with my fam... then I'd do the game for fun whenever I felt like it.

In a nutshell, if you hate a 9 - 5... you must not be qualified to get a good one... and if you were... you'd still hate it because you're probably lazy and only like the fun things in life.

When you see traffic at rush hour, those are the real niggaz. They feeding family the hardcore way. They don't have time to pursue dreams for 8 hours out of the day, they have to pursue a lifestyle for whomever they have to feed and clothe. Even if it's themselves.

I've seen your setups and living conditions via Ustream... some of you mf's need to quit making beats and get off your ass and secure your future. Grown men shouldn't have roaches in their Cheerios, Nah Mean!

Some of you probably missed the good days of Hip Hop... but you should hear some of the songs...

I know a lotta mf's that think HIP HOP is going to save their life, lol. It hasn't saved it yet has it, How old are you again?

Remember, Hip Hop is fun for mostly young guys... its gets you women and ish at clubs and parties... I hope you all get to grow old.... hopefully you won't have to do MMA Fights like Coolio and DMX...

Hip Hop Hooray!

Back to Legal Dollaz post, like he said MySpace are making a killing of advertising, from your music, with the majors getting a share of the action. (MySpace makes 70mill a month of advertising)
YouTube too.

Forget placements, I'm trying to build the next online music platform that will help other rising producers.
Placements would sure help though, but I don't want to be sitting in my studio in 10 years from now eating 2min noodles and staring at that platinum plaque on my wall from my successful single lol.

More scary than a 9 - 5

to me, lol.

Them noodles got hella sodium too, throw "sitting in a studio with high blood pressure" in there, lol

It's your life people... assess you skills correctly and honestly...

Know that people that sell stuff for $20 will probably not mind going to $15 or $10 just to undercut you...

Still, imo... anythang is plenty mang...

Lol dang, i didnt wanna start any arguments..just wanted 2 know how a few people felt. and i got that. thanks to EVERYONE who put in their input.

Good luck 2 everyone in the new year. Set Goals, but more importantly, do everything in your power to accomplish them.

For the record Mev, you's a cool nucca in my book. Keep that positive attitude because believe it or not... that's half the battle.

The shyt I post... people shouldn't even read... before they're ready for it. My posts are mostly for the 26 year old and up crowd... and they mostly mean...

Quit playin'...

If you're under 26... you shouldn't be on FP (why is a young man spending time on the web?!!!), you should be out in the streets having fun, making contacts, finding out who raps, who makes beats, who knows who, going to concerts of big name rappers, getting women on your street team...

Life cranks itself up at around 26... it's like you wake up and life says... ummm, what is we gon do nigga? Nah, bruh! I'm serious...

And if you're over 30 and haven't made it...

I can do that cause I'm over 30... lol, but I'm good though.

to me, lol.

Co-signage.
I'd rather have a solid 9-5 than be in the situation I just posted worrying about the next $2500 cheque so I can pay the bills lol.

Life is serious business.

Crazy, Sexy, Cool generated $75,000,000.00

T Boz said TLC got $50,000 a piece... watching the Monique show on BET...

I just don't like some of these stories, lol. (but she just said the label had to "recoup" but CMON' SON $75MIL and you get $50thou)

They probably toured and ish though before 360 deals and ish...

That's actually real talk, Rome. Before i had my son(at 24, so not quite 26, lol), I had no FP acct or time to sit on the net or a compouter, period. Being at work was the longest you could get me to occupy a space. Too much sh*t to be out doing living life. Ironically, we've lived and settled down, but folks act like we the ones with too much time to be on a computer keeping track of our post counts and sh*t, lol.

To everyone up here without responsibilities, why aren't you saving up and buying one way tickets to L.A., NYC, MIA, or ATL? Why aren't you out clubbin seeing what music people enjoy, hanging out with friends, interning at studios/radio stations/labels, or at least hollerin chicks? No offense intended, just sayin life is short, you won't get that time you wasted organizing samples or tweaking drums you may never even use back.

And I agree, if you over 30, this sh*t better be a hobby if you ain't rich off it, even if you do get a check from time to time.

Nah, man. You're a stand up type of dude. That ish WEIGHS ALOT in the real world. You shut that RED dude down that tried to throw the thread off track. Do that ish in the real world... you'll be an exec making bank.

Most people NEVER take ish on the chin.

Hope everything goes well for you man. Your music can compete.

You know what Deranged... a bunch of 26 year old mf's is going to write off whatever we say.

Just saying that you are really wasting time if you're in your younger years and you aren't out their grinding and ish. You never really know who knows who. I remember being in this seminar and they said "If you lose your job, tell everybody!"... you probably already know why they said to do that because it's actually like forming connections in the music biz.

I'll just say - Life will happen to everybody on here... yep, LIFE. Not my life but Life just like your Mama's life and your Daddy's life... they did what you did, they met young and had plans and shyt... LIFE happened to 'em... plans didn't work out unless their name is Bill and Claire Huxtable.

I hate sounding like I "missed the boat" - because I'm still badder than 75% of you mf's but man... don't listen to other kids in the same boat at you... listen to the mf's that made it off the boat, lol.

Only if your boat starts to sink though. Go hard.

Chasing placements shouldn't be your job to begin with. If you've been producing long enough, you should have a manager, started some local grind, or should be working to getting the attention of a local notable label in your city. Understanding that the internet can do wonders, it doesn't fully replace you personally building relationships and walking up A&Rs, pulling strings to secure some industry management. The music will always have to speak for itself; however, you have to hustle your music to secure that placement. I speak from personal experience.

Skrews

these two statements don't jibe...they make it sound like you've fallin into just the life pattern you've tried to avoid...even with your music.

well that's pretty much case lol, I'm obviously not at a point where I can do it the way I would like so there's that conflict where I have to decide each time what is most important to me

You keep equating PRICE OF BEATS to LEVEL OF INFLUENCE.
Those two things have nothing to do with one another.

I disagree, and its more that I'm asking you why you think that they don't ... everybody talks about branding, if you brand yourself as that, your not gonna turn around and get a deal to sell headphones like a Dr. Dre

$.99 Double Cheesburgers have a high level of influence. Don't act like when that's all you want, your girl don't tell you to bring her back a combo meal, and then the kids need kid's meals, then you want a milkshake, before you know it....

They know that when they make those Double's .99.....

Business 101.

the price influences someone to make that purchase, I've never denied that, but its still "McDonalds", its no kind of delicacy or special occasion, its like a damn jumpoff

lol I like that, I'm not at that point just yet, but I'm close enough that I can see it fast approaching and I know objects in the mirror are closer than they appear, so I'm already frantic tryna figure out "what is we gon do?"

Life just asks at 26... sort of like the guy with the starter gun saying ON YOUR MARK!

at 27, Life says - Get Set!

at 28, Life says - GO! (If you already have you ish in order, Life won't ask you anything)

Don't worry about ish though, people know if they aren't THE NORM.

At 30, you should've found a woman you really like... you should have at least one child (that lives with you) and some kind of career path... imo. That's what life is really about.

... and if you only go to see your kids on their birthdays and Xmas... biggrome says you's a bytch nigga...

My plan is to get married at 29 lol.
30 would be fine too but we need to bang out those 2-4 babies (my prefered number) by the time I'm 35.

Please God let it work out, I need to pursue my dreams first, and see the world before I get married, and after too.

So a Gucci Mane or Plies credit is a "gourmet dinner"? Look at what we're talking about. You can't sell caviar to McDonald's consumers anyway.

You think Kanebeats makes more off his Cashmoney placements than he does off his soundclick traffic? One keeps the other relevant. Business 102. lol.
