what do you prefer to mix/skratch with? "both" is not an option here, if you had to choose one, CD or vinyl, what would it be?

i've got both...Cd's to play in the car/house when i'm chilling. a lot of Dj's use Cd's and there seems to be a lot equipment coming out that is geared 2wards that....so what i'm trying to say is that you can mix with Cd's....no problem....but you cannot skratch with them...it's just "special effects"..kutting/skratching/beat juggling is strictly for the vinyl heads.

peace.

P.s but ya know what??...it's just a matter of preference.

you can't really scratch with cd's ... even with the CDJ-1000's, the feeling just isn't the same
i use both
cd's: cheaper, easier to get music, ...
vinyl: easier, more fun, better music

i wouldn't hesitate a second when i got the oppurtunity to transform all my songs i have on cd to vinyl though:D

no

Why do ppl get into arguements bout this?
CD's are not a DJ's tool,
DJ'S USE DECKS!
what would you say if u went into a club and saw some1 using CD decks, u would laugh!
So if u want to be called a DJ in the proper sence then get decks

PS u cannot scratch on CD's just make wierd sounds

so i guess Danny Tenaglia is not a real DJ....

i guess that he is a Dj....but i don't respect the ones that use Cd's in the klub..period!!!
It go's against the essence of being what you call a DJ...you can't call yaself a Dj and use Cd's....but like i said b4 "matter of preference"....:)

how come? isn't it all about the music and performance?
and u don't respect Danny Tenaglia? piff! don't let Alex TC hear ya....

it is all about the music..no doubt!!!...Danny is doing his thing so i have to respect what he has done....BUT!!!!
if i went to a klub and saw someone behind a Cd playa...it just wouldn't be the same...it's like an unwritten rule "code of ethics".
if ya call yaself a Dj...show ya skills on the decks..those "other" Dj's could be putting in a mix Cd for all i know and just going through the motions

peace.:)

so let me get this right.
when some1 like Danny T plays CDs it's OK, but when some else is, it's not DJing?
OK, TTism is about skilz, but mixing? it all in ur head! it about smooth mixes, creative mixes!
why do u think big name DJs use CDs? don't ya think they can get all the songs they want on Vinyl? they can afford cutting vinyl, so why do they use CDs? cos' there are things u can't do on TT and can do on CDJ, yepp! and CDs ain't that bad, each medium got it's + and -
bottom line, it's about performance and the music (and CDs can add something to ur performance)

oh! and have u seen Roonie G (pioneer dude) in action??? the things he can do with 4 CDJ-700... if that's not skilz, than i'm a chicken with a rabbit tail!

what i said about Danny and other "big name" Dj's is that i respect them for getting ahead in the music biz and getting paid etc etc...
i don't respect any Dj that uses Cd's the same way i respect an "original" Dj.simple.
we are in diff genres so the rules appiled are different as well
i have yet to see a DMC world Cd mixing Championship????
you have to earn the right to be called Dj

P.s...haven't seen that dude.

that's just narrow minded...
can u loop on a TT? there are things CDs can offer u that u can't get from a TT
u can't expect to see DMC cd mixing championship if u rule it off from the start
after all, if some one will do an amazing set on a CD, and then u'll go to the booth and see he was using CDs, will that set be less better than it was?

i can loop on a TT...it's not that hard and i'm not arguing that Cd offers more "tricks"....but the art of Dj'ing is more "hands on" than Cd
i wouldn't pay to see Cd mixing....more machine than man????
and yes if i heard a slamm'in mix and then found out he was using Cd's...i would tell him to do it again because i wouldn't believe he done it.

peace.

NO, u CAN'T loop on a TT....
that's just like when CDJs say they can scratch on CDs....
i'm talking about REAL loops, frame accurate loops, constant loops... not the loops u can do with TTs....
and as far as what u said above, i don't even wanna go there.... ur fixed, that's it, ur the one who is loosing here...

YES, you CAN loop on a turntable. It's called a sampler. Sure it's not built in to the player itself, but it does the same thing.

Of general nature :

One thing that strikes me when reading this is :
'Is DJ's playing for other DJ's or for an audience in a club ? I mean, if they don't care how you do it and by which gear you utilize, why is this so important ? It's all about performance and audience well being isn't it ? Good performance = Your DJ dignity is kept.

NO, it's not the same thing at all, if u used a loop on a CD u know it's not the same thing AT ALL, one is a REAL LOOP, the song can go in and out of it with a FLOW in the song, and the other is just SAMPLED LOOP, these are two diff. thing... u CAN'T do the same things u can do with a CD loop, on a sampler loop...
so saying DJs who use CDs aren't real DJs is just plain dumb, it's all about music and performance, and using CDs won't hurt ur performance, it will only improve it, that's why big name DJs use CDs in their sets! it can only ADD...

grrrrrrrrrr

ive been watchin these cd vs vinyl threads and im getting very very ticked off by ppl slingin mud at cd djs.
im basically a cd dj. and let me tell u this i can be just as good as most djs who spin on vinyl. u want proof that a cd dj can do a lot ? go watch the pio video on the cdj 1000 and the cd 302 video from tacam !

granted cd manipulation is not the same as vinyl .

let it be known that i own tts too cause im not as close minded as u so call vinyl junkies.

if u want to make a name for urself stay open minded.
if u cant handle the heat then step out of the fire.

if this thread gets out of hand im gonna shut it down.

if ive stepped on any toes then im sorry its just the way i feel.
