what do yall think is the best song that mixes rock with rap?

some ideas:

- rage against the machine songs (which is where my vote goes, either for "down rodeo" or "bombtrack")

- mike patton - stuff from his new "peeping tom" album, or stuff with faith no more (like "epic")

- prince paul n dan the automator - "rock and roll could never hip hop like this"

- dj shadow + unkle + kool g rap - "guns blazing (drums of death part 1)"

- radiohead - "talk show host" (more of a rock song but the instruments/drum-programming are very hip-hop)

- nas - "thiefs theme"

- beastie boys stuff (especially that album "licensed to ill" with the slayer guitarist)

- run-dmc/aerosmith - "walk this way"

- jay-z - "99 problems" (im not a fan, but many people like it)

- sublime - "doin time" (the drumbeat is very hip-hop)

- deftones - "back to school" (chino does some rapping), "teenager" (ILL drum programming with some old-school-rap-style drum sounds)

- team sleep - stuff from their just-released debut self-titled cd (its ILL)

- public enemy and anthrax - "bring tha noize"

- linkin park (i am def not a fan)

- gnarls barkley (i am def not a fan)

and btw, as a matter of self-promotion, I make rock/rap hybrid stuff (http://www.soundclick.com/billythekidny)

I think it's a tie between Run DMC/Aerosmith & Public Enemy/Anthrax. Those two were the callaborations that created the whole rap/rock genre.

There's only one

Sophisticated B-tch, Public Enemy

Yeah, but it was Vernon Reid on Sophisticated *****. And woa woa woa, whatcha talkin about Willis? Let's get back to the original rap/rock duo--Fab Five Freddy and Deborah Harry! Psych!

like the guy said rage against the machine is (was) always dope,
also korn and linkin park....i cant remember the name of the band but if any of you remember a long time ago a rock band put out a song about wiggers, shot a video for it also, i wanna say foo fighters but i know thats not right

for anyone who is a nirvana fan....

i just bought the album "sliver - best of the box" which is basically a collection of some 4-track and live and formerly-rare studio recordings of nirvana. they have this one track on there which is titled "smells like teen spirit - boom box version" and it is sounds kind of rap-like.... the drumming is very hip-hop and the lo-fi tape-saturated recording makes the drums sound very gritty, like those early-90s vinyl drums on wu/premier/etc.

i made the connection to hip hop since it said "boom box version" but this probably has to do with it being recorded on a boom box, rather than it being made to sound like "boom box rap"... but even so it def has a kind of rap sound

anyhow, if you like rap and you like nirvana, the song is worth a listen.

supposedly cobain was a big rap fan and listed public enemy and some other early rap albums among his "50 favorite albums" in his journals (which were published after his death). too bad he didnt live on to see the later rap of the 90 like nas, wu tang, bone thugs, 2pac, etc... but he had once said in an interview that rap was the only genre that came out since punk that has had any real integrity.

The Team Sleep album is one of my all time favorites, but I'm gonna go with Anthrax/Public Enemy. That is a classic to me.

Back to School started out as a joke by the way. Deftones wanted to prove to their label that they could go in the studio a make a hit single in a matter of hours... and they did too, cuz they are dope like that.:D

i enjoyed the Wu-Tang Clan/System of a Down collaboration of "Shame on a N***a"

but rage is prolly my top pick for rap/rock hybrid.

Cypress had their moments like "rock superstar".

Haven't heard any of their latest stuff though.

yeah rock superstar was pretty good, but when they came out with 1 particular album that was soley devoted to rock, i dont remember which one, i think they flopped hard on it though

1st Place: "She Watches Channel Zero" by Public Enemy

2nd Place: "Rock Box" by Run DMC

3rd Place: 'Body Count" by Ice T/Body Count

...nuff said. ;)

I'll have to go with Rage Against the Machine as well. It was really the first band that got me open to the idea of rap/rock hybrids. Although Run DMC/Aerosmith started it, I was a bit too young back then to really take notice.

As far as songs, it's a tie between "Bulls on Parade" and "People of the Sun".

Neva break da chain-big steele chronicles vol.1, this song mixes biggie nd steele with fleetwood mac, ish sounds crazy

RATM on wake up, bombtrack and... just about everything on their self titled really.

And i agree with SOAD and WTC on Shame, that was a sick song.

Linkin Park - Dedicated demo (more of crossover I suppose, but i just like the lyrics)

theres loads i cant remember right now..

WTF what about MOP .. the "Mash Out Posse" album rapin over rock beats.

but my fave are RATM

It's not out yet, but Imma go with the collab with RZA and System of a Down for Raekwon's new album:victory:

i didnt read every post,
but was the nas and korn collabo mentioned
or limp biskits nookie
and wtf's that incubus song called

not the best but worth a mention

rolling - limp bizkit and dmx
dont wanna be a player remix - incubus and big pun off that loud rock- they had some heat on there, the 2 big pun remixed where hot
