Good question. I don't see it as a competition if I don't enter where everybody else enters. What seperates the producers from the beatmakers is the ability to make a good song. How do you make good songs? By making as many as possible. Grab some pellas, holla at a few rappers, vocals are an instrument, too. Just something for a couple of folks below me to think about.

Good thread.

I agree. Its a process. It also helps to put yourself around people who have been doing it for a while. I'm sure most people have their own process when in the studio but sitting in @ other peoples' studios' can also be an eye opening experience. If you have the chance, check it out. You will learn something new.

The first time I sat in someone elses studio, it was humbling. I mean, dude was fast, efficient, professional and to top it off he was a young (er) cat and was cool as fcuk. He definitely didn't take no BS either. Not on his dime..

learning how to make real music and not that soundclick garbage

Promotion. Working on songs with people to actually produce. Learning a few instruments and some better music theory.

I'm just working. Getting as many rappers on my beats as possible. Each rapper has friends and followers that don't necessarily overlap. Spreading the seeds.

It helps that I have a thriving scene to draw from in my town as well as being the center of the industry.

I can't imaging doing this in the boonies.

Yea its def harder on you when you are trying to build experience and there is no one around you on the same hype.

Just doin me. The problem is everyone is a copycat of everyone else these days. I mean we all take aspects from each other. But to totally copy someones style is whats gonna make you blend in with the crowd
