do not use as you internet computer as well if you can avoid it (adds all kinds of crud that affect your performance)

you need to fine tune your system to eliminate some services that chew up cpu time

give me the above and I or others can take you through tweaking it to be a production machine
 
At the risk of sounding like a broken record :)

I suggest ( as a beginner ) use an ipad.... The apps are mind blowingly innovative and killer synths and effects sell for less than 10$.
The only place where I have run into limitations is in the realm of audio quantization like in ableton live. As a matter of fact the audio engine quality and effects in Auria sound better than my desktop daw using ableton live.
