one thing we can say about Props is that they are not looking back. what i mean is that individuals will "never" will be able to use hardware/software in stand alone mode (midiout) with Record/Reason combo. you will have to rewire...

it seems like they are sticking to thier guns with no midi-out...

I agree 100%. The only communication with Reason/Record is audio itself, and Rewire. I don't really have a problem with this because I have other software. In Props defense I will say this, they are really attempting to make software that doesn't really require anything else. People who are just getting into making music with software can actually buy Reason/Record and make music.

Especially Hip Hop.

This is Reason: The Hip Hop Revision!!!!!!

kong huh?

so i was right!!!!!!!

ok now we know what the "BIG" update is.......lets compare.

how does kong stack up against NI maschine? against motu bpm? lives drum module? fpc?

how good are the built in kong fx? they look cool.......but almost too cool. do they sound as good as they look?

i sample myself alot so i know i could do some damage wit that built in rex player!

is there a note repeat function in kong?

i hear what you are saying about recycle...

but recycle is more income for Props...

$200 a pop...

i do not think you would leave that money on table either...

Don't get me wrong, as a business move, I completely get it.

But as a move that affects their public image, well lets just say I've seen many people complain they have to open recycle and pay for the ability to slice.

I think people over hype this update...
mostly fan boys, Reason 5 is good, but it's nothing new, the features are new for reason users

who needs kong when you have battery 3

With the update, will the MPDs link automatically with note repeate to work Kong or any other module?

I am feeling that Kong joint, yep, I am definitely getting Reason 5 and Record 1.5. dammmmmmmmm !

Just got outta the studio doing an RnB track with vocals it was sweet the way I did it and I can't wait to get the other stuff from Props. I am waiting for my hard drive so I can put Hollywood strings up, it should be here in a lil while :) things are looking real well.

yes, they are targeting that fl studio crowd and young urban producers/beatmakers...

i know that statement will bother some but it is true...

fl studio has made tons of money of imagineline...

and Props has notice that fact...

Props thing (i believe) is that there are tons of individuals that think fl studio is a toy. Props is basically agreeing and saying "hey, come check us out"...

battery cost 200 by itself (180 if you wana be technical) and its just a drum machine.

you can get the reason/record duo for 200 more (220 if you wana be technical)

and you will have all the software you need inorder to get your feet in the game not just kong the drum machine.

so if one were to go the battery route then they gotta cop a bunch a other vstis......

I'm glad that there are software programs out there that are affordable! Everyone can't afford to buy vstis, or buy $2500 computer to even work them. This allows for anyone to use the computer they may have to make incredible music. There are a lot of people with talent that don't have the cash to afford what people consider industry standard items, but there are people that make great music with with they have. This gives everyone a chance to learn something about music engineering, production, arranging, and etc..without having to work six jobs just to get home project studio.

For ages, I've felt that software/hardware manufacturers weren't really targeting Hip Hop/RnB producers with their products. Their products were always aimed at other genres of music but beatmakers would mold it into what they needed it to do. This isn't the case with Reason/Record. Love it or leave it, this update is clearly aimed at Hip Hop/RnB. That isn't saying that makers of other genre's of music wouldn't
benefit from the new features, but to me it seems like the tables have turned this time.

& I think that's a good thing!!!:)

i totally get what your saying kb.......if all these softwares are instruments.

now we finally have a instrument fine tuned for us and our specific genre.

I know the rules, I have been on here since 04
I didn't say anything really..

ohwell...
This thread probably won't be as active anymore
we have seen all the big features in reason and record..

I'm wit ya Kb!!! I think it will help me more with my drums. I've seen other people use things like Battery to freak up a kick or snare, but i really couldn't do that in Redrum. Others might have been able to, but I'm person that is lazy when it comes to trying to figure out a lot of things about a program. I like for it to be right in my face!!! So I think this update will help a lazy mofo like me!!!

i asked a few pages back but this damn thread moves so quickly people prolly liturally over look posts!

i had my heart set on buying NI's Maschine but i already have a mpd.

is kong going to make me change my mind about getting maschine?!?!

It's hard to say. It depends on what you want to do, and how you want to do it.

how hands on does kong make the mpd? does it sync right up with it when you have the mpd dialed to "reason"

does it have note repeat function?

i like the hardware vibe of maschine........so i guess it depends on how hands on kong makes my midi controller vs.......mouse clicking.

im pretty sure i read that all devices in reason are now samplers........but just double checking you can sample directly into kong correct?

It would change my mind. Remember, Maschine is still software too, but the controller is just more interactive without the hassle of setting it up manually.

In any case, I would go with Reason and pass on NI altogether. Maschine is still a drum sampler, Kong is light years ahead of that. Drum synthesis, physical modeling, sampling...Yeah, I'm impressed with it.

I hope Kong causes LinPlug to add some physical modeling to RMV. :)

Everyone using Reason and/or Record has no excuse not to get Recycle now.
