You kickin knowlege. I like how several pages ago you talked about gettin caught up with some low local acts that will only waste your time and make you lose out on opportunities. I was down with Project Blowed one minute in 2001 but got caught up with some low groupies. When Aceyalone and Kool Keith wanted to work with me, I was listening to these guys how it was a bad idea. They said AC was past his prime (turned out to not be true) and Kool Keith is a coke head dating porn stars (I should've thought "so what?")
All this time I was giving these low dudes free beats and they never got on the open mic. I then stopped going there.
I know a lot of people reading my stories are like, "Damn, you've had lots of opportunities and blew them all!" Yes and I only wish somebody like Wallz was around to guide me through the process. I had to learn everything through experience. Some think that's a good thing, but I would've saved thousands of dollars while making millions.

Good story, im always sure that I pick and choose carefully. I see so many up and comers act wreckless throwing themselves in any crowd they can to get a discog.

You gotta be careful that you dont typecast yourself.

I had a group of producers I was trying to help. Somebody I planned taking them to was a platinum MTV regular. Due to beef and such I didnt want to take them out because they could possibly make the wrong move at the wrong time. Man they were so impatient and didnt understand. Due to that they lost alot and they have nothing to show for it.

Impatience will wreck you.

BTW that Game remix on your page is hot.

..whoah!..Wallz, that last post you put up just might be the most valuable info I've seen in a long time if ever. Not that you havent been droppin' it the whole time but that there is just plain black&white truth. I'm taking that info and running! I cant thank you enough homie. Peace.

I don't want to be the cat that comes off sounding angry or jaded. I LOVE making music and I'm still very good at it. I sit in the lab and make joints just like you. I still know what its like to dig through the SAME 50 records over and over and find something new every time. I am NOT an industry cat. Industry cats like to talk and sip Cristal and get their nails done like f a g s! I am from the HIP HOP era, former "back-packer" recovering grafitti writer, rapper and unknown pioneer. You know what, I need to revise my statement. I AM THE FUKKIN INDUSTRY!!! Young cats like you are the next Kanyes, Blazes, Neptunes and Doc Dre.'s Unfortunately you have had every bad example and no one to explain how **** really works. Its a hollywood game and until you learn to play that game, or link up with someone who plays that game like a pro, you will continue to spin ya wheels doggz! Trust me, you NEED skills! Learn all you can, but remember, all book smarts and no swagger and style makes you a fukkin nerd! LOL!

BTW, I have a Kelly Rowland remix I want cats to check out later tomorrow. Honest feedback only!! wILL POST LATER...

to woodcock, click on the link of that remix. It will take you to the page of the guy that made the beat. he posts here.
one more story, in late 2001 the resident DJ a Project Blowed (who only got $0-10 a gig!) got approached by the son of an Arab who owned a studio. He had no ride so I took him. Turns out it was the same studio Off The Wall was recorded, Babyface and Stevie Wonder were on-time owners. We scheduled an appointed the next week. The DJ got all nervous and suddenly said our stuff was wack then he rerecorded his mix which was worse. He bailed out the last minute so we were a no show.
The owner showed up to his gig the next week and was like, "Where were you? I really like you". That same gig, some kid came to the DJ and asked, "How come you never play any recent popular stuff like Busta Rhymes?" He got pissed an walked off. Another blown opportunity!

Wallz,

I want to put a beat CD together with a few of my hottest tracks and I want to know what you think the best format for a beat CD is.
That's my one big question for this post but it does include smaller questions, like should I put the entire tracks on or just 30 second clips? How many beats should I put on the CD? Should I tag the beats? Should I get them copyrighted before I pass the CD to people? And do you actually give your beat CDs to people to hang on to or do you just play it for them? What info do you include on your CDs? I put all these questions in one post because they're all related to the beat CD and I wanted to avoid having to go back and forth. Let me know if its too much. Your wisdom is appreciated.

one suggestion that i learned is don't put too many on one cd so people won't be overwhelmed with em. Id say tag ur beats generously, definitely get them copyrighted, give it for them to play it at their own leisure, the info id include on my cds is, contact number or email, and titles for each song, that way u and ur customer would be on the same page, also add ur name too, so they can spread the word.. The best format would be an audio cd. Regular audio cd.

Hey Wallz... Ive read Pages 1-15, Very interesting stuff. I will finish the whole thing by late tonight, but I just have a few question's.
I am in high school, so I have a very low budget, but what I do have now is Adobe Audition, and FL6, I have only been producing a few month's, but I am getting very good in FL6, at least I think. I was wondering, do you think a Trigger Finger would be a good purchase for me, cause I can bang beats better than I can sequence them, and also a Oxygen Keyboard from M-Audio, cause I also play piano. Do you think this would make my beats better?

Also could you give me a honest opinion what you think think of my mixes so far? They are on my soundclick, which is the link in my sig.
Thanks.

I don't think he has to be the one to recommend these devices. Those are already my top recommendations and it is better than nothing.
If you are in high school, just take your time. When I was your age, the only options were $2000+ hardware and AOL 2.0 was the latest thing out and the world wide web wasn't popular yet. And Walls is about 7 years older than me. I am still trying to break in, but when I was your age I did think the older I get the lower my chances. If you're dope, you're dope.

So i have reason 2.5 with the Reason Drum Kit. Is there a way to layout the drums Redrum style instead of MIDI style using Reason drum Kit for NT-NX

please no sticky :)

lets keep the forums fluid and uncluttered

if some info should be made as an article or tutorial (HUGE TAB AT THE TOP) then let me know and we will do that.

Soon anyone will be able to create and submit tutorials and articles. Furthermore, you will be able to post comments on them.

Tip of the iceberg actually... anyway, sticky is archaic and not what you really want here :)

Please post a new thread in one of the forums that already exist!

thanks

this thread is a nightmare... it's like ignoring the fact that FP has DOZENS of well organized forums...

I respect all the questions, but IMHO look around and check out all the sections of this site...

THANKS
