No disrespect...but REAL machine? If you can't make music with Akai or Roland products...it might be you. In no way would any company put everything every user requested. I can't comment on the MV anymore since I got rid of it a few months ago...but my MPCs are stable and do everything I need them to do.
Now with the possibility of adding new technology to them sounds appealing..especially, if it has the Recycle chopping features...then I can get rid of Recycle...which is actually very useful for my S6000..
No Disrespect taken! I never said that I can't make music with Akai or Roland products. I've been making music on an S-950 and a Mac Plus running Master Track Pro 5 for over 10 years (along with a bunch of analog synths). My MPC 4000 has nicely replaced Mac Plus/S-950 for a bit more then a year
What I was meaning, is that their are several things on both machines that could be improved with existing technology. Many of these could be resolved by software only changes.
And could make them sell more products, as well as open creativity for me. If they do NOT implement them, will I stop using their products? No, but if they implemented them, would I use them? YES!
I could sit and list things for hours, but I"ll just name a few, but both companies are living in the 22nd century. The MV only supports a 40G harddrive (it can handle more but Roland says DON'T DO IT). and the MPC will only support 2 120G drives. RAM, 512 is just not enough, and more RAM is easy these days, expect that they've made a product that won't allow one to put more in...
MV
- Q-Link sequencer (one of my favourites from the 4000 for adding dynamics)
- Ablity to use filter on Audio Tracks without wasting an MultiFX
- Modulation Matrix (this is a MUST)
- Any form of external storage - 4000 can use USB jump drives, USB Harddrive , SCSI Harddrives
- more then 32 stereo voices (on MV polyphony halfs with stereo samples)
- more then 16 instruments available at once (on the MPC we have up to 128)
- ability to exoprt midi sequences as MIDI File Type 0 and 1. Even the MC909 has this ability
- more then 1 filter at a time available for instruments & Audio Tracks
- more then 1 LFO for instruments and Audio Tracks
- more then 1 Envelope for instruments and Audio Tracks, currently, the Envelope is shared between the VCA and the Filter (where the MPC has
2 multi-stage envelopes and 1 ADSR envelope)
- ability to automate(record into sequencer) many of the tweakable parameters. effects control (and mixer for that matter) are not currently automatable
MPC
- VGA out
- Ability to have more then 6 banks
(this can be done via a software change)
- MORE RAM - 512M is a lot but not if your doing a 3 hour nonstop live set
- Burn Audio on CD
- Visual editing sequence in Ak.Sys
- Ability to set one of the FX as a "Master FX" insert/send, that way one can put reverb or compression or eq on the master output.
- ability to record a song via playing "Next Sequence" pads
- Audio Track IN (like ASR)
- RealTimeStretching
- FX need Midi-Syncable option like LFO's
- Multi Modulation Matrix - mpc's modulation matrix is Program based which is great (where are you on the MV?) but what would be even better would be a seperate 64 point modulation matrix for the Multi's, so that one can set CC's on FX and the Mixer, or one can route a Midi Syncable LFO to the FX..
Cheers,
