after alot of thinking i bought the yamaha rs7000, i was contemplating on getting this or a akai mpc 2000xl, however the yamaha is brand new and i liked its features better. i just got it so obviously i havent mastered it.

does anybody have this unit and what are some sample cds for hip hop u guys recomened and what break records

thanks

another thing that made me cop the rs7k over the 2000xl was the fact that the rs7k has the same sounds as the motif, i took a tour and the sounds are incredible

big ups to yamaha

i had the rs7000 but got back my mpc2000xl. dont know....i had the mpc...and musta been used to it or something....so when i got my hands on a rs7000.....i thought it was pretty good. but something about it.........i dont know.....made me miss my mpc. buuuuuuut.....the sounds on the motif and rs are different. i know that much

Yamaha RS

proud owner i am
have it almost one year now and still i´m impressed and
don´t regret buying it for a second.
i like the cool sequencer especially the point with the phrase
lengths and the possibility to use different meters in the same
style/section.
the sampler is really cool too, though i didn´t master it yet
because of its enormous complexity.
perhaps u know OS2 is on da way with great improvements like
recording on the fly AND changing rec modes whithout stopping
the sequencer, fixed grid mode, direct access to section K-P
and some other nice gimmicks.
there are besetting rumours that yamaha will add goodies like
some more filters and we all wait curious for santa claus to deliver OS2.

maybe you should check out the following boards:

see no real need, program your (beat-)loops and use your resample function- or buy musicmags like FM; there was a CD completely full with very nice samplestuff.

yea i just wanted to get some cds to have some different sounds. so far this machine is great. but i just bought it. i will check out those boards and do some more research

by the way lasher no i dont no what the os 2.0 is. but i no it stands for operating system 2.0.

with the os 2.0 do u use the rs7k wit the computer or does the rs7k load the os into the rs7k machine,

because my computer sucks

thanks

Yippieyayey!
new OS (v1.2) is waiting for download and installation!
it has 12! more filters and all the major bugs are fixed...
now recording on the fly, possible to switch rec modes while
recording, fixed grid mode (you now hear the oher tracks too)

take a look at:
http://www.yamahasynth.com/down/RS7000/RS7000.htm
actually the OS update is not v2 but v1.2, last version was 1.14.

you can download the OS from the web, preferred to a smart-
media-card-reader then put the card into RS and install.

you the man lasher, now i just have to get a smart media but they are cheap. i am gonna end up in the hall of fame as a producer wit this machine. is the rs the only unit u own, because its all i have and i dont plan on getting any thing else. im just gonna get sample cds and vinyl. the preloaded sounds are pretty amazing

need some sounds?

what up yo. If you are in need of some drum sounds, go to
www.phatdrumloops.com

you can download the drum breaks of HUNDREDS of records for free there and import them (they are saved as .wav) into the RS and use the slice feature to chop 'em up.

is the rs the only unit u own

very nice and qualified ppl around!!

@TeeRo
nice one!!

i will check that out teero. i went to east orange once to take my ged test, because i was planning on joining the army and u get more money with a ged, high school diploma, college diploma etc. and that city was ghetto. the whole city didnt have any suburbs or nothing. didnt some rappers come from east orange. like redman, lauren hill or somebody like that

lol

about 80% of EO is straight city - looks like a mini bronx or some isht. But the other 20% is basically suburbs. yeah Lauren Hill, Latifah, and Naughty by Nature are out of EO. Where you from yo?

aight..

when did you cop your RS? I got mine in May, but I had alot of other isht on my plate at the time so I'm just getting into the RS in the last couple of months. I wanna know who else owns the RS and who uses it for hip hop so I guess I'll start another thread. If you didn't already - go get the OS update! The filters are sick!

hey you rs7000 owners.

i was wondering what you all thought about the rs7000 compared to the mpc2000xl, mainly about the sequencer and use with a triton?

right now i own a triton and i wanted a master sequencer like the mpc. i use to own an mpc but traded it up for my triton cause i wanted a synth. But now that i got a synth and some money, i wanted a better sequencer (im sick of effects limitation on the triton)

how about midi sequencing? is it a hassle?

and can i route my triton through for more effects?

platinumcool...

I'm an RS newbie and I don't want to misinform you. If you don't need the extra synth sounds, go for the 2000xl. Honestly, you should post this question at www.rs7000.org message boards. I have to say that the guys there are very knowledgeable and honest and will help you way more than I could.

how about midi sequencing? is it a hassle?
are you joking???
sequencing is a piece of cake man!
even with the former OS and now so much improved
-MPC looks quite pale, dude.
don´t know another machine with those
sequencing/sonic/sampling capabilities in ONE.
don´t know any other seq which manages different measures
and different patternlength per track.

it´s possible to exchange the instrumentation of tracks by
simply recording another "patch" in the header.
i.e evry section another drumkit if you like without writing PC´s.

the old OS had 6 filters or so, now add 12 new ones, some
new sounds and highly improved sequencing.
suppose yamaha finally recognized the sheer power of this
unit truly and the users snd their userboards with the
unbelievable feedback was a major factor too.

this is OS 1.2 now and rumours started that the RS´s OS will
be further updated in the future, maybe the sampling unit will
be the next step to perfection- hopefully.
i´d like to have a nice unit that will not be dated in a few years,
but a neo-sclassic IMHO.
so does the RS tribe.

no matter what style you´re in, you have a real
sequencing/sampling monster.
if you don´t like the sounds- sample the hell out your other synth,
use softsynth, samples, resample, effect it, resample again,
timestretch, sample slice and re-sequence it!!

sequence your filter CC´s, pitch, efx, whatever you want.

at the moment i only use RS+Indigo sometimes even only RS because
there´s so much i haven´t tried yet, though i master
the basics and bit more pretty well if i may say so.
besides i learned very much from the RS folks through the boards.

the decision is up to you, but best would be to try out in a shop
where you can stay for an afternoon or so to get a little deeper into if you got the chance.
for me there´s no question, i was about to buy the MPC before i discovered
there´s another interesting sequencer with all the features that i missed on all sequencers i used before.

i´m not working for yammie btw.

:D

although i only bought my rs 2 days ago, i did alot of research and decided to go wit the rs7000. i liked the fact that the rs came with great synth sounds preloaded and is basically brand new. the rs came out in 01 and the mpc2000 has been out for years.

the yamaha rs is perfect for hip hop, its geared for hip hop,r and b, and techno,my friend uses it and makes some great beats. and i will to once i master it. which will take a while.

yea teero if u master the rs u could make amazing hip hop beats. its basically the same as an mpc except newer and better. i already have like 10 break records and im gonna keep buying break records and some sample cds

i tried producing wit fruity and absynth but i just like the feel of hardware. it gets me more motivated.

the rs7000 is a great machine at an amazing price

I have no doubts...

I'm sure once I master the RS, the beats will be incredible. I've made several pieces just to familiarize myself with the controls and I have to say that this box is totally amazing and has infinite potential.

boyz, get the update!!!!!!!!
it´s so cool oh it´s so cool.
can´t help it, i LOVE this silver thingy!!

3 times hooray for Yamaha :victory:

Lasher, i'm in full agreement with you mate.:D

How good is it being able to access the K-P sections from the front panel !!?? Considering I only just learnt how to hardwire each sound per pattern and use scenes, i'm starting to realise how immense this thing really is!

Funny how you mentioned you dont work for Yammy, cos I feel that when people REALLY start to learn these machines like after a year or so, thats when they love them the most, and start raving about them.

I mean, who really wants old technology in an empty box with a few drum pads anyway?;)
