Yamaha MSP5a vs. Yamaha HS50M vs M-Audio monitors (BX8a or BX5a)

I currently own a pair of M-Audio BX8s that I use for DJing. I need another pair of monitors for my home studio though. I really like my friend's Yamaha monitors. Any audiophiles that can give me a breakdown of the difference between the two Yamahas?

I can get the BX8a's for around $380, the BX5a's for $250, the MSP5a's are like $500 and the other Yamahas are $400.

I guess part of me thinks I shouldn't have 2 pairs of M-Audio speakers.

the MSp5a are spectacularly awful monitors.
the have a resonanty bass with little detail, a lower mid scoop and general uneveness that certainly doesnt inspire confidence IMHO.
a brief look at the freq response graph confirms its even worse than a short listen lends itself to suggest. -5db down from 1k to 500hz, this continues to be still down 5db at 100hz, then +5 at 80hz before falling -15db at 50hz. even without that terrible plot the scoop at 1750-2500 ish would give me some concern. it ceertainly looks like a poorly implemented crossover design.
good for mastering says yamaha, not even good for listening on at all id suggest.

the smaller yamahas arent much better IMHO. ive only heard the m-audios briefly too and wasnt that impressed either.

if you already have some monitors then spending a similar amount on a second set doesnt seem to be worth while. unless you have sufficient funds to seriously upgrade theres probably not much point, you would be better served savign more until you can properly upgrade. you should atleast be used to how commercial mixes sound on your m-audio if you DJ on them alot

The problem is that my DJ setup is in another room so I can't really use those for production. I meant that if I finished a track and had to mix/master it I could bring those in to have a second set of monitors...
