Xone 62 post-eq monitoring

I jst got a XONE 62. Beautiful mixer, i love it.
Just curious, is there any walk around way to be enable post-eq monitoring. I know it doesn't support it, but maybe anyone knows some smart way to make it work...

not that i have found. i went from a djm-600 and missed that feature for a bit, but i'm simply used to not having it now. i know that sounds like kind of a cop out, but i don't really consider this a flaw in the 62. it's a very different mixer to get used to, but as i was told when i got mine, give it 2 weeks and you'll love it even more. it took me a little while until i learned that this mixer likes to be run with the input faders all the way up and master out almost all the way up - just the way A&H designed it i suppose. - jeff h
 
i own a 464 and love the post eq function. it's kinda like the backdoor to your sound. lets you know what the whole track sounds like. however. i do believe that you can have an authorized technician do a little creative soldering and get it the way you want it. i'm sure it's just a jumper of some sorts.
 
Yup you can modify it, but be aware that will add some noise (still it will sound cleaner than a DJM but hey).

The best workaround is to use the Auxes. Just listen to the aux pfl (that has EQ on PFL), and open up the according aux pots...

do you know how to do the modification? or are you saying that an A&H authorized technician can do this for you. i wouldn't mind trying it if it's not too difficult and possibly put in a pre/post switch at the same time. of course this would void the warranty - so maybe it's not such a great idea. - jeff h
 
I asked that question when my Xone:62 was new because I found that pre eq pfl awkward in the beginning. When they said it would add noise and more chance of having interferences, I decided to give the pre EQ another try. Now I really dig it, and prefer it over regular post EQ. Not a big deal, it's just as much trouble as getting used to the 4 band eq.

It involves resoldering two or three links on every channel strip, but I didn't look deeper into it.

Just mail the guys at A&H (Mike Clarke in particular), he'll surely help you out further (though you'll need to give your serial number, to prove you're an owner :D)
 
One more thing,

Here are few of the things i experienced with my new X62, please let me know if yours are the same:

1) A slight sound distrotion when turning the equalizer on/off
2) Exactly same slight distortion when engaging XFADE

yup i get those and to a lesser extent when i engage and disengage the filter. if i'm trying to make a recording, i just make sure everything is set how i want it before i begin. - jeff h
 
Why did A&H allow for such a flaw to exist? It is a very expensive mixer and I would personally like everything to be perfect. This is of course if all of X62 are like that.
 
hey sorry guys but im kinda lost on what exactlt you are talking about--can someone inform me.

when you say post eq monitoring are you talking about in your phones like----they only play the record through the phones with no high-mid-bass -- eq changes you do on the eq nobs -or what?

Pre-EQ monitoring means that the equalizer does not influence the sound traveling to the headphone monitor. What you hear is what is on the record. Post-EQ means the EQ control will influence what goes into the phones. Personally, I think it should work like so: Headphones pre-EQ, and booth output post-EQ.

They designed the filter buttons, eq bypass buttons and xfade buttons to be just on of switches. The slight click your can hear could easily be resolved by adding a capacitator in the chain. But that would add more noise and interference problems. Their aim was to get a signal flow as clean as possible.

You'll get used to that click pretty quick. You'll know when to activate the button for the click not to be heard.

Ok it may piss you off to have such a problem on such an expensive mixer. If a clean signal is what you want, you'll have to make some compromises. Even big studio mixers have such problems you know (worked on an AMEK boulder that had such click when you engaged the EQ too).
 
Toxa, sounds to me like you want a djm-600 :D . I have to agree with Thy on the sound quality thing. A&H certainly know what they are doing. it's like wanting to put removable RCA cables on SL1200's - sure they will make life convenient, but the more breakable connections, the worse the sound quality (especially coming from a stylus). the 62 is a very different mixer, give it some more time and if you don't like it, take it back! i think you'll end up loving it though - jeff h

Cut wire links L1 & L3 and add a wire link at L2 & L4 on each stereo channel.

thanks David! i'll take a copy too! btw, do they specify who has to do this modification to keep the warranty intact? it sounds simple enough to do on my own, i just like the piece of mind of a warranty. i don't remember how long the warranty is anyway. if it's only a year, i may just do this myself and of course some new LEDs while i'm in there :D - jeff h
