Working on my first batch of songs -- how do I create THIS sound?

I'm trying to achieve an effect much like the one at 1:35 in this song/remix... (the pulsing "side-chain-y" chords) using Logic Pro



I have a chord progression and I have it ducking using a side-chain compressor, but it just doesn't have the clarity, energy or tone I'm looking for.

I'm wondering if something like Serum would make this type of sound much easier to create as well? Not really sure where to go from here.
