Why Go For a MPC 3000 Over a MPC 4000 Nowadays?

I mean, I understand that there's alot of features on the 4000 that alot of people don't need but why not go for the more powerful MPC?

I just checked out this MPC 3000 on EBAY for a GOOD price :

https://www.futureproducers.com/eba...com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7346815145[/url]

And I'm actually debating getting it but I've had my mind set on that 4000 for the last two weeks. WHY? Cuz of ALL them damn features. Now I'd be using the ASR & Fantom X6 in conjuction and they pretty much have all the editing/effects feature's I'd need. The MPC would PRIMARILY be for sequencing and drum programming.

Besides swing, sound engine, and interface (if u prefer it) of the 3000 (and the fact that it's roger linn), WHY get it over a 4000 in this day and age?

Used they're ROUGHLY the same price.

I only bought the MPC 4000 new because it was the newest most powerful MPC. But when I got, I realized that this was an entirely different machine. It wasn't as simple as sampling and assigning samples to a pad in the sense of the previous MPCs. Everything that was simple on the older MPCs were a little too complex. I took the time to learn/use it and create tracks but it was just not the same. So I went back to using the 3000. I have been sampling drums and loops for many years now..and I didn't really need a monster like the 4000.

like J said the 4k is a powerhouse. you could do just about all the functions of your fantom and ASR-10 on a 4k. The 4k lacks in the effects and filter department, but soundwise you can get pacthes for the 4k that are better than anything yamaha or roland will top any time soon with there keyboards(24 bit samples oh yeah). Basiclly the 4k is for people who want everything in 1 box to ake there music to the next level. Its great to gig in since you only need that and a midi keyboard. Everything else is alredy onboard. But the 4k is a whole different generation of machine.

ahh, that sounds wack.

My MAIN reasoning for getting the mpc is because of my previous experience with the 2000/2000xl and how simple everything was. WHY would they change how u assigned samples to pads? I'm not diggin' that at all.

If I can learn to use the fantom sequencer in & out and ADAPT to it, I'll just stick with that and the ASR-10 (add some other synth's later). I absolutely MISS every aspect of the mpc's sequencer, it just made everything so damn simple. I'm also LOVING the interface on the 4000 but that alone won't make me cough up $2,800 for it. Also just cuz I'm used to that doesn't mean I won't get used to another pieces sequencer.

Although the Fantom comes with tons of sounds and patches (plus the option to add srx's), would u suggest purchasing sample cd's and FURTHER adding to the sound arsenal?

I would do both. Add the SRX boards and buy SAMPLE CD ROMS. There are plenty of high quality CD ROMs on the market.

Yo, MADDDD folks is selling 3000's on ebay right now LOL they must be selling in anticipation of the 2500.

Last week, there was only one on there, this week it's like 12.

To be honest, having any MPC is a blessing. But, I have a 3000 and had it for years now. I love it and wouldn't wanna change at all. But, if I was buying new, I'd get a 2000XL or a 4000.

The 4000 has so many features that I have else where in my studio that I might not venture there. But the XL is tight. If I didn't have a MPC and I didn't much cheese, the best MPC offer these days is the 2000. Can't beat it for the price...usually about $500 to $650.

Good luck whichever way you go.

Peace.

Oops.
Disregard my double post.

Peace.

I don't know fam,

I'm bout to work with this ASR-10/Fantom X combo so I don't know if I'll need a mpc although I've ALWAYS wanted a 3000 (used to own a 2000xl). I would be using it for the sequencer and sequencer ONLY since the fantom and asr have way more effects and filters. I don't know if I'll even need one nowadays. But it depends on the fantom's sequencer. If it's GARBAGE, i'mma get a MPC, only a 3k or 4k though. Prollem with the 4000 is, I've heard that the asr/fantom have better effects and filters, so I don't know if I'll need that either. To an extent, 3 pieces like that is overkill to me.

We'll see.

Several MPC 3000s on eBay are scams..a few others are not in great condition. The ones that are in good condition, will cost you at least $1600. Only an individual who doesn't have common sense will sell his gear in anticipation of a new piece of gear with no offical word from Akai..regardless of the pictures and comments that are circulating...probably MV-8000 users starting this drama :)

yea, you're right alot of them are scams.

How does EBAY not pick up on these scams? how do u report these fools? cuz i'm getting sick of seeing this mess lol

eBay is too big for them to pick up on every scam. They can pick up on some when they use eBays systems to solicit information from potential buyers..and other times, when people file reports with eBay. When I run across a scam on MPCs, I will bid on them to prevent others from getting ripped off. I have plenty of experience and know all the signs of their hustle so I never get caught up...well, I did get caught up once..which will never happen again.

what happened, if u don't mind me asking?

i see cats on there with fantom scams now also.

what happened, if u don't mind me asking?

I bought an expansion board for one of my mixers. It was taking a long time..so I emailed him. When he finally got back to me..he apologized saying that he had to go out of town on business. He said that he would send the card immediately. After a week or so..I still didn't receive it and he didn't answer my emails. So I contacted Pay Pal to complain. I had to go through a complaint process. The complaint went in my favor...but, he didn't have much money in his Pay Pal account so I just received $5..when I had paid him about $140. Pay Pal just restricted his account and that's it.

So now, I don't pay for things with the balance in my Pay Pal account. I only use credit cards through Pay Pal..unless, the auction has a Pay Pal money back guarantee logo in the auction listing. This is reserved for sellers that have excellent reps and high volume sells. When you search for eBay items, there where be a check mark next to the Pay Pal symbol indicating this additional protection.

Speaking on ebay gear scams,

could someone explain what they mean and how to spot them out...just so I and the community can keep a heads up.

NEVER buy from anyone with less than 98.5% feedback. Also, NEVER buy from anyone with less than 10 feedbacks AND less than 6 months registered on EBAY. Also, check the feedbacks and make sure they were for substancial things and not 10 orders of $0.50 pencils.

played with the Fantom X today at sam ash for some hours

really DON'T dig the sequencer

an MPC is likely becoming more of a NEED now.

at the same time, I haven't spent enough time on the fantom's sequencer to learn the in's and outs but so FAR, i don't like it.
