Why do rap producers do this????????????? "Beatz"/"Beats"/"Music"

Why do rap producers do this????????????? "Beatz"/"Beats"/"Music"

Why do so many rap producers have to include "beats", "music", or (the most common one these days..) "beatz" after a name?????

Producer's are some of the most creative individuals, so why do they insist on doing this????? I'm baffled by this!

I look at some of the biggest producers and no where in their names do they have any variation of these annoying "surnames".

Please, someone, explain this to me (preferably one who with these added & DON'T get offended... Just a question).

Branding.

If someone sees LABDUMMY...they don't know what you do. I'd assume you were a chemist or something.

But if I saw LABDUMMY BEATZ. I'd know exactly what you did.

It's because they can't afford to buy business cards that tell you what they do... So they have to put in their name on You Tube, cause it takes less time and it's obvious to the reader then... And what have you...........

As Troup rightly said, branding. I imagine if the producer with 'Beatz' in their name start making big moves, they'll remove the word as they won't need it as much as they would have a brand identity that people recognise.

Very good question. I sometimes get confused to whether the beats part is just to show they're a music producer, or just part of their name.

Labdummy is a vlog site. What did you think "Google" did when you firsts saw their name??? They weren't called "Google Search." When Steve Jobs first created "Apple", did you associate that name w/ a fruit????

Names ending in "beatz"/"beats"/"music" are so painful to look at imo.

If that was the case, you should opt. for something like "J.Troup Beatz." Long descriptive names are less memorable. I'll be more likely to remember "Clams Casino" or "9th Wonder" then "Clams Casino Beats" or "9th Wonder Beats".

You said that it's hard to afford business cards for up & comers & that's why they use names like that, so let's use an example involving a up & comer. "Johnny Juliano" is good branding. Branding takes work. If you think branding yourself as a producer is as simple as adding "beatz"/"beats"/"music" at the end of a name, you may be (in a very small way) correct, but you should really think twice.

I think it's good to leave a little mystery in your brand name. There a trillion music producers. If I get a email & w/ the name "beats", "beats", or "music" at the end, I'm either going to: A. not going to read it anytime soon or B. trash it..

Brand names are suppose to embark feeling and emotions. Are you going to buy walgreens generic "diphenhydramine" (allergy medicine) or "Benadryl"????

I suppose people are right when they say Americans can't sense sarcasm(I actually thought when people said that, that they were actually being sarcastic) ... But that's cool, just a cultural difference, I suppose.

I hope you realise the business card bits a joke... Business cards are printed for like £3(For a stack of 200)? Let's say at most $10... Or £5 in the UK... If a producer can't afford that then they should quit and get a day job... On the most part they'll say they can't afford it because they can't be bothered to put the work in to build the awareness around their name... And I hate that, they should just quit production if they aren't willing to work to build their name... I would tell you of a story about a producer who had 'Beats' in his name... But, he's on the forums and there's a possibility he'll see my post, and I don't want to offend him, again...

The second part was me agreeing with Troup... If you hadn't noticed, I don't have the word 'Beatz' in my name, on my forum name I have M.C. - because I started out as an MC and that's the reason I joined here (but on my Bandcamp you just see EXCLUSIVO)... But then I became a producer as well and dropped the MC... And now I'm only really producing... You'll only hear production from me atm, and no features... So I suppose I should take up the 'Beats' name(<<<< PLEASE NOTE THAT IS SARCASM)...

Tell the story.

Btw, no producer really uses biz cards.

No, sorry. As I already said... I don't want to offend him...

And I know a lot of producers who do... Whoever you are, and your selling something... Then you're automatically a business/vendor... Sharpen up your game, a butcher doesn't go round with a blunt knife...

I used to go by the name if "Jehfreebeats" back in the day, til I decided the "beats" part was kinda wack.

So I decided to think of another word to use that describes beats.

In the bay, they refer to beats or songs, as "Slaps", or when a beat hit hards, they refer to it as "Slappin"

So I changed my name to Jehf Slaps.

EXACTLY! Awesome! Being creative!!

Here's a quick story of how Clams Casino's name:

And what's the story with your name?
It started off as a joke. My friend was calling me that, and it really doesn't have a meaning or anything, but I kinda kept it, and it just stuck and was funny and catchy and people remember it. Or when they see it, they're like curious about it, so I was like, "Alright, that's cool. It works." Unfortunately, now, that's it, though: That's my name.

(Mr.) B
angladesh

He's said he chose the name
Bangladesh because he describes his keyboard-centric production style as "Bangladesh": "It's just Bangladesh. It's foreign to the ears."

Skrillex (lol @ the story behind this one but I still love it!)

How did you pick the name "Skrillex"?It was a stupid old online AOL screen name. There really isn't a meaning behind it.

Born on January 15th, 1988, his real name is Sonny John Moore but ‘Skrillex’ was a nickname he’d had for a while. “(It) really means nothing. Throughout my teen years my friends would call me ‘Skrillex’ or ‘Skril’ or ‘Skrilly’.”

And your name will stick in my mind for a while....
Is this your sarcasm again -_-

lol! I joked about that a while back on here. It was cool a while back til everybody started doing it. So today it pretty much puts people in a box. It's almost like you know what to expect when you see the name beats or beatz before you hear the music. I tend to not even listen to music of people that have those words in them. Not saying everyone with beats or beatz in their name is wack as far as the music they create. Saying that a majority of beginners do it because they really haven't found a name yet so they think of something no one has used and put beats behind it. It all goes together.......So-N-So Beatz.....HOTTEST BEATS ON THE NET!!!

Music at the end is not used as much. But I remember a time when Records was a word often used. lol! So-N-So records...or recordz. People don't want to be P no more though....it was more CEOs at one time than anything.

I've come across your soundclick page a few times. Like your music.

People aren't creative as they think they are. I actually like weird rock band names more than hip hop names.

For hip hop... I did like Wack Flocka Flame as a "name" not so much the music. I thought he music was kinda lazy.

**** that branding crap. It's nothing but monkey see, monkey do or for the uninitiated a way to attention whore because "you do music." Go to hotnewhiphop and tell me how prod credits you see with some cliche ______ beatz name. How many popular (album--not mixtape or soundclick) producers or beatmakers have a beatz name? Three. Nitti, Swizz, and Kane, but I wouldn't ever attribute their success to adding that word to the end of their names.

That's like an artist coming out in 2012 with Young ____ or Lil ____. Stop that shit. Leave that in the last decade, and with that said--my comments aren't a diss to anyone whose name precedes 2010. Dudes get a FL Studio crack, make one beat with stock sounds, and run to twitter to add Productions or Music to the end of their @. If you want to ride the new trend for producer names, join up with someone and form a duo. Then, choose a name with The at the beginning.

wasn't this already a topic like a month ago? anyways, i will say though, at least cats with "beats", "beatz", etc, have names that are self explanatory and you know what they're occupation is right off the bat.

smartest shit you ever posted.. ever ^^
Please tell me you're being sarcastic.. I will post this again, just in case you were too lazy to read it the first time around...
