These factories also loved to let you run up a tab just so that they could have you work it off and have an excuse not to pay you. That's slavery right there

Morally, nobody is above anybody. Money wise, education wise, social acceptance wise... they are still above black people. We had a decent chance though, we gave it a good run. I thank MLK and the rest of the activists, we were on track. We went hard in the paint.

I work on the inside. It's almost like working in a fishbowl every single day. I'm the representation for the African-American male here. I have to speak well, dress nice, be courteous... all a lat.

I do it so my son MIGHT not be looked at as some hoodlum dressed in slacks when he goes around for job interviews.

I'm overly courteous to that white lady when I sit down on the bus, so that the next time a black person sits next to her, she doesn't feel the need to clutch her purse.



I'm OVERLY friendly to these folks in this office, so that the next time they interview one of you black folks, they are going to have a POSITIVE image of a black employee in their minds.




When i worked at Circuit City, I was in the computer department, and I'd get white people all the time that would say "we don't want to work with anyone black", or "we want to work with a white guy".


They'd just come right out and say it to one of the sales people.


AND I'D LET THEM WORK WITH A WHITE GUY.


And I'd love the look on their face, when that white sales person turned around to me to answer every single question those bigoted ass customers asked them about a piece of technology...because I WAS THE EXPERT.




This other time, I had a customer say they didn't want to work with a black salesman. I spent the next 6 HOURS working with these customers, just to change their mind about black sales people, so that the next time they walked into ANY store, they would remember the amazing customer service and knowledge that they got from that young black guy at Circuit City...



And when that same chick had a problem with her computer, I came out to her house, and she tried to fcuk me.






But all that's to say that these young kids don't understand what us older (semi older) black men go through, just to make shit easier on them.


I bust my ass everyday to try to portray them in a good light, and they come right behind me and fcuk it up, cuz they can't pull their pants up or speak proper english.



Shit is discouraging.
