Is there a difference? Ive heard some rumors that the white mpc 4k is better becuase it came out first or some jargon. Some rumors from people were the white mp has a better harddrive a faster OS? That didnt make much sense to me. Im looking into picking up a 4K really soon. If anyone wants to let me in on this please inform me. Thanks, Peace!

same exact thing

it is a matter of personal taste. I like the white one much more. I hear that they will all be black in the future (like that had all their products blue for a year or so)

What about the painted Louis Vuitton one ? It schools them all.. LOL...

Aight yall thanks. I guess it was just some BS rumors that people were making.. Thanks again! Peace!

Actually I think the white model was the original and the blue ones were the newer models with the new OS, could be wrong though, but then again?

Heres a post I found...

check out this recent response from akai:

Re: Blue MPC4000

This is obviously a misunderstanding.

We have always stated that there are no hardware differences between the blue and white MPC4000 models.
(and this was made very clear to our dealers as well)

As shown at Winter NAMM 2004 last week, "Blue" is the new color for all Akai Professional products in 2004 (for a unified look):
MPD16, MPC1000, MPC2000XL, MPC4000, MFC42 Filter, Z4/Z8 Samplers, DPS24 Studio, EWI, HV10 and HV1 harmonizers.
The only product that changes hardware between the original and the blue version is the "HeadRush" (delay/tape echo/loop recorder pedal), but in this case, the model number also changes from "E1" to "E2".

The "new Intel CPU (StrongArm)" and "new LSI (Z96)" is indeed the original text from the introduction of the MPC4000 (only the picture has been changed to the blue model, but the text has not been changed).
There was no intent from us to imply that this was "new hardware" this year.

The OS that we were showing at NAMM on the MPC4000 was actually the pre-release version of V1.51 that fixes the "MIDI OUT FULL" and related issues when using MIDI CLOCK.
In V1.50, this issue only happens when using MIDI CLOCK, not when using MIDI TIME CODE synchronization.

V1.51 is now in beta test and if everything goes well, it should be released early February.
We are commited to the continued development and support of the MPC4000. Several new features will be added in 2004.

Thanks Sean, I just wish someone from Akai would have cleared this up sooner - and I realize that the MPC4000 is not really your area, so don't take that as me blaming you. It just amazes me that this is the first place we get any official word on this and OS 1.51. And yes, the MIDI Out Full error happens with MIDI Clock, which is what I use. Can't honestly say that I tried it with MIDI Time Code. Unfortunately, there were a number of other bugs reported on the MPC4000 Yahoo Group mailing list. Hopefully these will all be addressed. I truly hope that Akai is commited to the continued development and support of the MPC4000. I had almost given up hope.

and a later post:

Simon,
Yes, Akai is commited to the development and support of the MPC4000 (white or blue, all the same).

Intellisample is already there (at least some functions):
When you record a sample, you can:
* Auto-Normalize it
* Automatically add it to a Program (existing or new) on the Pad of your choice (simply by hitting the Pad that you want the sample to play on).

I think that what you want is "auto-sampling" each time the MPC receives a new sound after a silence (for instance when sampling multiple sounds from a sample CD) and "auto-increment" the Pad number, but this is an additional feature. However, this is in the list of features that we want to implement in future updates.

Regarding "audition samples from hard disk", the current hardware can support it and this feature is our highest priority for the next major update.
The reason why it is not there yet is that this does require a lot of code programming, and in the mean time, we had so many user requests to implement "16-Levels Tuning" and "Pad Mixer" features (although those were not advertised) that they took priority over "audition samples from hard disk" in our schedule for V1.50. Now that those are implemented (V1.51 will be out soon), work on "audition samples from hard disk" can resume.

The only other "advertised" feature that is somehow missing is "PRJ files" to save and reload all data (Song, Sequences, Multi, Program, Samples) from a current Project in one pass.
However, this feature is actually implemented, but it is not called "PRJ file".
You can:
* save ENTIRE MEMORY to a New Folder
* reload the entire Folder by placing the cursor on the Folder
Same result.

Even the manufactures themselves can spin the truth to make a false truth sometimes. I have also been on the search for the answers and the truth regarding the blue and white version. Anyone here if they have further info please let me know. I'm trying to find out if it is fact that the Akai company has been bought by Numark, a company that manufactures DJ equipment such as mixers and turntables. Now anyone that knows Numark products know that they have a blue line and don't you find it ironic that it is the same blue ("Numark Blue")as the new Akai version of the 4000? Not to say Numark is a bad product because they are making a comeback but they certainly are not the best of manufactures out there. The big rumor about this hype I have been researching is that since the Akai - Numark buyout, the quality in materials used to manufacture Akai in especial MPC 4000, is cheap and less durable and more prone to wear and tear over use(cheap parts). I have sent a inquiry to Akai regarding the buyout and no reply since. Given the information above I wouldn't really let it sway my decision on weather to look for a white model or just opt for a blue one. But only time will tell from users of both versions how they stand the test of time. Peace...

New OS is on their website... You download it and put it in your MPC4000.

Color is only what is different here...

DOT DOT DOT ....YADA YADA YADA... CALL THE AKAI CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS AT: 401-658-4032 AND TELL ME WHO ANSWERS THE PHONE......IT NOT JUST AN OS UPDATE AND DIFFERENT COLOR (BLUE) SHELL HOUSING....

bkp... do you know somthen...? enlighten us if you do.
i'm confused about your "call akai" statment....
what are you suspecting is different?..
is this in relation to diff numark quality parts being used?....

The quality of materials used to create MPCs has not gotten worst since the owner of Numark acquired the company.

Throughout the years, the MPC lines has changed colors quite a few times. The MPC 3000 is in two colors, the 2000XL is in five colors, the MPC 1000 is in two colors, and the MPC 4000 is in three colors. The operating systems are the same for each particular unit.

was da difrance beatwean da cd playa dn da mpc?????!!! Dey are basicly da same thang: u press da buton, you heer da musik...

oh yeah an jahrome i have the 2kxl se 2

i highly doubt the internal parts have changed since numark aquired akai....

numark did NOT acquire AKAI the company

they acquired the DISTRIBUTION of AKAI products in the US

big difference

That's exactly what I read on the internet and initially believed. However, I received word from VST Service that the owner of Numark and Alesis acquired Akai...not just distribution.
Since they are an authroized Akai Service Center, I took their word for it.

In Japan recently...Pro Audio Corporation Japan has taken over distribution of Akai Digital, Akai Professional, Alesis, and Ion Audio...I also read that they were suppose to handle distribution for Numark as well but I can't locate this info anymore.
