you can get better quality for your money buying an audio interface but u arent going to find anything great in the $150 range. get your money up

So you dont believe that i can acheive good "street" quality cd's with a $300 mic, $500 pre-amp, and a $150 interface? im just doing mixtapes. Plus my listeners arent going to have trainded ears. I honestly would like to know because that level of quality is my goal.

i dont see the purpose of buying a $500 pre and cheapen it with a $150 interface. Its like buying a Benz and putting 7-11 87 grade gas in the tank and wondering why it runs like crap. I am not saying you can't get quality out of it what I am saying is that you can be better depending on what you decide to buy. I would honestly spend my money first on the interface, then on the pre and have the mic honestly be the cheapest part of my setup. bad interfaces make good gear sound bad. good pres make bad mics sound better and bad pres make good mics sound bad.

oh ok. thanks for the info. If i did get a mic and pre-amp in those price ranges, what kinda of interface would you recomend?

MOTU or RME to roughly match up the quality of converters with the quality of pre.

Even something like an M-Audio FastTrack would serve you better than a USB mixer.

I use an E-MU 1616 and am very happy with it, although the mic pres don't have much headroom. The 1616M uses Digidesign-like converters which I like.

The Ultralite is the best value FW interface if you have external pres. It comes with two decent pres itself.

Does anyone have any info on the Roland Edirol M-16DX/ Or if the M-audio Project I/o Mix works well with FL Studio ?
