This is the Phono Preamp I have:

Art USB Phono Plus V2 Phono Preamp w/ USB Connectivity

They just amplify the signal from the TT. Without it the TT is amazingly quite. Then you just connect the turntable to the Preamp and the preamp to your interface then that to your comp.

And you don't NEED anything else to work good in FL but it is of course nice. I just have a shitty keyboard I use to control MIDI. I'm also gonna get an MPD32 but just got some monitors so I need to save up a bit more. Just look into various controllers and see if you like the looks of one.

Yo! Does anyone in this thread want exposure? Just thought I'd ask while I was following this thread. Click here if you're interested.

Hmm well there is a problem here. You say you haven't created anything good. If your going to be a serious producer you have to realize that you won't always produce that number one hit each time you hit the studio up. When I first started producing every track was my best. I say this because every time I produced a track I would make sure that I did something completely new and I would add on to whatever I did my last song. You can't do all the tricks of the trade in one track it's just impossible starting out. I'll give you a few suggestions and direction where to go. These things really helped lift me up into a confident level of producing.

1. Do you know music theory? Music theory is essential even if you can play by ear or have a good ear you need to know it. I was lucky enough to have an ear for trance because I'd listen to it for hours in my room and I knew what I liked and knew an anthem when I heard it. You don't necessarily have to have piano skills but, it could probably help. I have none and I do just fine.
2. You need to find a way to inspire yourself to produce. A fancy studio isn't the answer and a lot of people make that mistake early on. You need to learn how to use what you've got before you go out and get more. An example would be to play around with synthesizers and packs you have within FL Studio. It was months before I found out there were more instruments then sytrus, wasp, and 3xosc. They are very good tools and I've seen amazing things done with them but, if you can't understand how they work you won't be able to create anything worth hearing.
3. If your serious about your music you've got to act like it. If you go out and party every night, constantly hang out with your friends, or up your girlfriends ass 24/7 don't expect to be a professional musician cause it's impossible. The life you want to have is going to take sacrifice. Eat, sleep, breathe, and exist for music.
4. Forget about record labels, EVERYTHING! Produce for yourself and your audience not for a record label.

I hope this bit of information helps you.

Thanks for the link Nicro, looks like an affordable solution to the problem! Also, do you know any quality turntables that aren't targeted towards fancy DJ's, but are just for somebody looking for good quality sound and build for a decent price?

Haha well, my younger friends that are into music are too into there month long gf's so it's just a balance thing.

Yeah totally, luckily all I'm doing right now is going to community college and living in my parents basement for the time being. No girls in my life to distract me too far off.

Can't really help you out on the TT thing, I got a Pioneer PL 520. It's old and I got it for $25 bucks on ebay. Does what I need it to do though.

buying a bunch of equiptment all at once isn't a good start if you don't know it. find something or a sound to get inspired. i get blocked all the time. been doing this for a while and still make a lot of junk. real talk ... it just like riding a bike you fall off and you throe it in a corner but your still looking at it. the same with fl it'll sit there till you pick up on it. don't get discouraged keep falling eventually you'll be riding with the big dogs hope this helps and if it does remember i helped you get up and you help somebody else

As a fellow FL user that samples, I was wondering if when you make your sampled tracks if you only use the sample, or FL sounds or instruments/synths to go along with it?

Depends. I usually just use a sample, but I use bass SF's a lot. I really want Trilogy, but I'm gonna wait until I get some other ish first. I have added in synths and shit before, but not much. I will use different parts of samples though. Like on my youtube that "Something" track I used the keys from the beginning of the sample and the horns from later on to have different shit happen you know. I try to do that a lot.

The key here is experimentation my man. Seriously just **** around with shit. If you are messing around with a sample and can't get nothing, just go to file, new and start over. Try pitching the sample up.Pitching down. Chop different. Chop a different part. Chop parts throughout the song. Just mess around.

Also, have fun. Thats the whole point of making music. Don't get all overly pissed off. The way it usually works for me is I will have like 2 weeks of making music, then like 3 days to a week where I won't make beats or anything. During that time I will usually chop breaks or some shit but not really do anything musical. Why? Because I don't feel like it. Don't pressure yourself too much.

You're a genius dude. This is all such golden advice lol, it's really helping me on my path as gay as it might sound. I really appreciate it. I'll be sure to start working on my sampling skills rather than other stuff and try to get more versatile in that way. What do you mean by Bass SF's though? What are those?

Bass Sound Fonts. Don't quote me on this, but I think its just a sampled bass note spread across keys. I don't know though. All I know is that it is bass sounds.

And no problem my friend, just happy I can be of help.

Don't think so, I dl'ed them. I'm telling you bro, get your head out of that space where you feel like what comes in the software is what you got. You got A LOT more.

Oh and do you have a link to any of your tracks?

Yeah I do, but I need 20 posts before I can post links so let me blow a few posts really quick. But it's not that I think all I have is FL, I just really don't know where else to get sounds! Thats why I mostly rely on what I can sample, and stock sounds.

I know you can buy soundpacks, but that gets expensive and the only ones I've bought didn't do much for me.

Here's a few random tracks that I've made. I never went into making any of them with much of a focus or idea of what I wanted, so they are all different and all pretty random. I have some beats that I haven't made into videos yet either. Have a look though

YouTube - More Weirdness (Remastered)
YouTube - Kanye Style
YouTube - A Long Long Time
YouTube - Bass and Horns (Rough Draft)
YouTube - First Try Sampling (Finished)
YouTube - Darkside of Fl Studio
YouTube - Daily Bangin' Remix

You can check the rest of the channel too. Theres only like 15 videos.

Cool. I friended and subbed. But that "A Long Long Time" track was definitely the best to my ears.

Pretty much all of that is really experimental stuff, just sitting in the studio with weird ideas and getting them out there lol. But thanks, I liked that one as well.. it was the first beat I ever stayed up a whole night for to make and felt good about the final product. I'll be sure to get on youtube and add you

EDIT: I've noticed listening to your stuff, you have had a lot more focus in your music than me, so don't judge me too hard off these lol. I'm just now learning how to do stuff more efficiently and with all the advice I've gotten from you I'm optimistic about making good tracks coming up soon.

Hello everyone!

I'm new to this forum and I have read all your replies. I had a great time reading them all and I learned new stuffs from all of you.
I'd like you to check Dub Turbo out. You might just get everything you need there. It's complete and it's very helpful.

Thanks

Yo Nicro or any others, do you guys have any experience with the MPC1000 pads as opposed to other MPC pads? People say they're no good, and require a pad upgrade which is almost 200 bucks. Not something I wanna do if unnecessary.
