Back in the day it was definitely drums for me but now i'm having the most trouble finding good melodies with brass and some of the horns.

my best are piano/sub bass and guitar.

for me its drums i have a hard time playing them on the keys infact anything on the keys is pretty new to me

playing drums on the keys is a b-i-t-c-h. i had that problem massively but i just simplified my style. i mix at least 3 different layers of drum samples that i make but i've been thinking about getting battery 3

tell me about it man lol. usually ill cut up a premade loop or ill program them clicking away on the mouse, sometimes i get lucky on the keys tho

what i like about keys is that organic sound. but if u not good enough to play without quantizing it, it sucks

Piano... even when recording it live, it still sounds like ass. Maybe it's the sounds I'm using, I don't have a good piano VST.

Are you recording audio from a workstation or using a midi sequencer? Either way I recommend getting at least an "M-Audio Trigger Finger" if you're hitting out the drums.

I ask about the sequencer you're using because getting both the "ASR-10" and the "SP12" midi grooves templates is not a bad idea.

What are you using for your path library? I'm using both Native Insturments and IK Multimedia's libraries - healthy stack of acoustic and synth patches - but I want to move on up to that EastWest Samples library- their sound is something else.

I don't get why you'd play drums on keys in the first place rather than pads.

Piano using a sequencer. Laying out the melodies is fine, but the process of trying to humanize it all is a B1tch

im using cubase and the korg k61p midi keyboard, i was looking at the trigger finger i might cop that or what do yall think about the nano pad

i need some serious work on playing distorted guitar and bass on the keys

Keys. I wanna get real intricate & sh*t but my playing skills aren't up to par. Sh*t gets frustrating sometimes & it's a ***** trying to fix the midi notes & humanize them, lol.

omg i thought i was the only one. it is the whole reason i bout the axiom back in the day (but those pads are ass)
im looking at the mpk61 now but i heard that the pads aren't too much better (but they are at least adjustable).

I suck at everything lol...
Seriously, lately, I've been fed up of using vst instruments... Or maybe it's my mixing which needs a level up in gear. But I find everything sounding plastic... plastic melodies... RnB is plastic these days... Kicks are plastic... My rhodes vst sounds plastic.. bleehhhh >.<
might be time for me to book a session with a word class engineer and learn some...

:)
