I was curious if anyone knew rappers that don't write their **** down and instead just rap off the top of their head. Jay-Z and Lil Wayne come to mind, but i'm not sure of any others. Andre 3000 sounds like he doesn't write down stuff anymore, but i dunno.

Common, T.I., hell alot of people dont write nowadays. It aint that hard. I do it from time to time but feel your music comes out better when you take your time to actually write down your thoughts.

Some rappers dont even make it a big deal like others do. They say its easier for them. But yeah 3000 has some verses where he sounds like wayne(lemme finish!!) in the way that they might be like "um" or might pause or ect. U get me?

There I fixed it for you.:)

You can tell Wayne was heavily influenced by Jay-Z & 3 Stacks. B4 he kinda came into his own he was emulating the hell outta them (Sqad Up/C1-C2 days). I liked him better b4 though, lol.

Not sure if you already knew & I just didn't get how you worded it but Jay-Z & Wayne don't rap off the top of their head. Jay-Z pretty much writes it & memorizes in his head (as he claims). Lil Wayne punches in. (recording method where he does a line(s), stops & then spits another line(s).

Dont no if you already knew this but its not like its a straight up freestyle

biggie smalls use to write very little and freestyle off the top of his head. thats why you see jay z and other rocafella artists that will say the same thing. Personally, I'd rather listen to a song with full allegorical thrills instead of spitting out the first thing in ur head. That's my opinion though. :)

LOL it should be more like... What rapper "says" they don't write.. Yall believe anything a rapper says...

^It aint that hard to rap w/o writing. I used to do it all the time & still do it occasionally like i said b4. You write your raps in your head anyways so all youre doing is eliminating the pad & pencil. Most rappers that dont write you can tell they dont, lol.

LOL.... you knew what we was gonna say before we even say it ...

The whole not writing thing is nothing special .... I've been singing off the dome for years.... I would try rapping off the dome but I tend to swagger jack the last rapper I listen to at that moment.

EXACTLY!!! Unless you're ridin' with them, why believe anything you read about their processes? There's gotta be as much hype about the way they do what they do as there is in any song! Mo' SWAG, Mo' SWAG!

Exactly... I'm not really a believer of the freestyled album... what I think is really happening is alot of editing... so Wayne goes in the booth spits some sh!t half good half wack... cut the wack part, I'll go re-spit all the good stuff, adding less wack stuff to it, so in essence instead of writing it down you just keep freestyling verses, with the recorder, or ProTools acting as your pen and pad

I remember Jay-Z saying that he prefers not writing because it's more natural, it feels more real to him. That didn't click with me until I started rapping out loud after thinking, and personally it's much better. I feel like I get too wordy and think too much on something when I write. If it comes off the dome, it has more of my personality on it. It's not the first thing but it's just a thinking process.

BIG and Jay would go off and think all day, that's how they did it. Like on "I Love The Dough", they both went off together thinking of rhymes or they say Jay just walks back and forth mumbling to himself. I prefer doing the same but I write too. It all depends.

Gucci does not write. And he better not say he does. TI said he started back writing on Paper Trail but I honestly can't see a big difference. Ehh...

don't know if they mentioned him yet but SP The Ghost don't write
