and do those disks hold more data than those compact flash cards?

I believe the MPC can only support a 1.44mb floppy drive. But Imation makes a 120MB floppy, but I dont know if the MPC can support that drive.

The flash memory card can hold more data than a floppy disk. I think its 64MB's, dont quote me on it though.

Cuz I'm thinking bout getting a MPC2000xl , but the MPC1000 takes CF cards, which is supposedly better, why does the MPC2000 take floppy and the 1000 takes a better drive?

Because when the MPC 2000 was in production Floppy Technology was the ****.

Things have change since then so the new machines are moving along with the times.

But there is a new MPC 2000XL coming out with a 7 in 1 reader sometime early 2005

(Not sure on the release date check with AKAI on that)

which one should I get?

I would say go to the store and get all the pros n cons of each machine.

But in general, the "new" 2000XL (Color Blue) has a Zip Disk now.

1 Zip Disk is like having a dozen of floppies on hand.

I use the 2000XL myself. Its the same machine Kanye West, Manny Fresh and a lot others are using.

The MPC 1000 is marketed as a compact / small downsize version of MPC 2000XL that can travel with the owner alot easier than the 2000XL.

Bottom Line - MPC 1000 - Portability, USB, Compact Card Reader, Less functional features than 2000XL but is cheaper and comes loaded with sounds.

MPC 2000XL - A true complete Midi Production Center. Without a lot of details, this is the better choice functionality wise.

I forgot the MPC offers a ZIP disk now. My bad!

for the MPC2000xl they say u can expand internal memory to 32mb ,is there a name for those memory chips?

I think they are called "flash roms"

I dont know where to get one, maybe sam ash.

If the XL has a built in floppy drive, it saves to 3.5 inch HD floppy disks. That's about 1.44 MB. It can also use just about any external SCSI storage device to save to...Zip, and some Flash storage cards that still operate witha SCSI.

Peace.
