What is Grime?

Sup Lads n' Ladies!

Just been surfing the web and decided to Google "America and grime" out of curiosity. The search didn't really show up much and most articles were dated broadly between 2005 and 2011. A few of these posts were Brits posting links to there 'favorite' artists without really providing a full explanation of the scene or substantial list of influential artists.

The aim of this post is to inform (to the best of my ability) those who don't fully understand the scene or are interested in widening there 'playlists'.

Soo.. Who am i? In truth.. a nobody! Just a die-hard grime fan! I am born and raised in England and have been following the scene since 2008 (Yes, it is a late start - but i have done my homework =D.) My taste in music ranges throughout the full spectrum of genres.. but my true favorites are Reggea, Chillstep, Euphoric DnB, HipHop (Not the Wacka Flocka Flame sh*t... The K'naan, Nas and Plan B sh*t!) and last but not least.. UK Hiphop and Grime (although most Brits just group the two into Grime.)

Grime (Basics)!
Roots: Grime lays its routes in: Jungle, Techno and most notably UK Garage among a whole load of others.
When: The Genre really began to kick off in the early 2000's and escalated quickly to 2006 which many original fans see as 'the year of grime'. As a late comer, i never witness that year - but i can safely say that Grime isn't dead.. far from it!
Where: Grime originated in London, although the UK garage MC'ing scene could be found throughout the country. Many still see London as the heart of Grime (but IMO, other parts of the country are pushing it much harder at the moment. eg Birmingham and the Midlands, Manchester and a little bit of Bristol!)
Dubstep: Both share the same roots of garage and 140bpm. The difference is that Dubstep followed the 2step offshoot of Garage. Whilst Grime instrumentals followed much more MC friendly patterns. Both genres have influenced each other heavily over the years.

So now that, that's under the belt let us continue! The Following section of videos represent the timeline from birth to today. July 2013. To keep things simple i have divided all artists into the section that best represented there era. Although some artists like Skepta and Dizzee appear towards the beginning of the timeline, they are still huge in the scene!
All titles in gold are my recommendations.
