that was AMAZING, f7cked door bell, shoe box full of money, guy passed out on the floor and the place was a f7cking mess.

favourite part was the fact that all his plaques were just behind a sofa all cracked.

redman = role model

I went to work with this rapper once and we went into this room and there was a 400lb beeyatch laying down on her stomach in the corner of the room...

when she got up there was a twin bed under her.

... last time I ever went out to work with somebody.

People at the house were trying to bum rides and ish... "Aye man, can you take me and my pregnant 14 year old sister to my momma house? I don want her on da bus..."

Mf's was asking me to buy 'em beer and shit... I was like wtf? Dude had to get his lyrics out of some trashbags full of clothes and ish... he had just gotten out of prison and had lived with his sister and all of his ish was in trashbags...

He only rapped about local ish... like anybody outside of Seattle would know what he was talking about.

Place looked sorta like Redman's spot.

yep... songs of 2day, many of them dont have the uniqueness that other songs have had over the years to have longevity... its basically alot of rehash of unoriginal songs that were out in the last 5 yrs... this is why Drake, Em, Kanye, or even Lupe, would stand out... more original content... not followin the normal bs we would here from tons of other artists that were bein played on the radio.

da relic
exactly my point. I think music these days is very follow the leader. People are afraid to be different and do their own thing because its easier to copy whoever the big producer out now is than it is to go out and do something nobody has ever done.

What happened is that MTV CRIBS killed the entire music game.

Artists no longer care about longevity, catalog, body of work, legacy... they care about cash. Ask me straight up which one I would rather have and I'd tell you flat out... cash.

Once people got to see other people with lesser talent living the lavish CRIBS life... creativity and all of that musical integrity stuff went out the window. Artist started to think "When I'm done, I want to live like that!".

It's also the reason there are so many artists, producers, singers, etc.

I blame everything on MTV CRIBS. That show is produced by the Illuminati. It's designed to keep everybody that watches it in a constant contest for dollars. If I had Usher's house and I kept watching CRIBS, I'd eventually want BabyFace's house... and If I were BabyFace, I'd want Oprah's house and if I were Oprah, I'd want to buy Idaho.

It's as if money is going to disappear tomorrow and you had better get all you can today. It's the reason NBA stars play with who has the best money deal, not who has the best team. They can buy a ring that's more expensive (but not as prestigeous) than an NBA ring.

It's the reason you pick the pretty girl that all the ballers want and will make your life hell instead of the average chick that loves you to death.

Nobody cares about longevity, it's a material world... thank you CRIBS.
shit it happend before cribs but I think kids took what jay z said to heart and ran with it.

"if skills sold truth be told. Id rather be lyrically talib kweli. Truthfully I wanna rhyme like Common Sense. I did 5 mill I aint been rappin like Common since.

LONGEVITY and hip hop aren't "supposed" to go together.

you're considered "over the hill" when you enter you 30's...hip hop has this stigma that it's only for "young" people...people that don't seek value, useful information, or "longevity" from their music.

COMMERCIAL hip hop (and even a lot of underground hip hop) has been DILUTED.

some people say it's just a sign of the times / hip hop's "evolution", but really, it's just a lot of ignorant black people (and others) w/ out useful core values & morals w/ a microphone in one hand and a rental-agreement in the other.

COMMERCIAL hip hop / rap has more drawbacks than positives as far as i'm concerned...
i wouldnt even call it just music for the young it was always word on the streets. it was about tellin the story about your hood and being heard and a way for a lot of kids in the hood to vent and get their frustrations out without hurting people. Its just that usually most people around 30 if they didnt make it said ok I need to take another direction start familes and try to live a normal life. I think hip hop now is a young mans game more than ever.

one of my biggest beef with Seattle rappers is that they only rap about Seattle shit most of the time and if you don't like in Seattle you won't get it most of the time and people in Seattle don't really buy local artists music like that. At least not rappers

but if that's the way it SHOULD be, then we really can't be irritated by the YOUNG / BABY / 'LIL / BOY (Y.B.L.B.) rappers...

Music I consider to have show longevity is traditional music, folk and early classical, music which was either remembered by ear or written down in some way.

Paper was invented in 2000 BC, there's no real reason for anything since then to have lost face. Now that we have the technology to preserve mass amounts of data, there is no reason for anything to be forgotten.

I think some of you are confusing longevity with impact.

There's no reason that some underground rap or one-hit wonder can't be discovered, re-issued, interpreted or covered later.

I think technology allows everything to come back and simultaneously be in style.

The great oxymoron of Hip Hop existence.

On another note, what needs to be assessed is longevity PLUS impact. It exists! It's been mentioned!

Pac
Big
Jay
Nas
Wu
NWA
Snoop
Dre
Eazy
Cube
Scarface
UGK
3-6
et cetera.
Em
Fif
Ye (Kanyievel)
Common
Talib
Mos

What are these PEOPLE doing that us PEOPLE aren't? I guess thinking of it, longevity is being confused with impact or quality, cuz hell, music and Hip Hop itself gonna be around for a very long time.

For the record, the internet blessed accessibility. DAMAGED sales. Think not?

It's just hip hop is flooded with a lot of flash artist not thinking about staying power just right now fame and money its no quality no more but there is some hope(Big K.R.I.T,Gibbs,J.Cole, and a few others)
