For some reason evertime I run a test mix.the fruity compressor sounds better than the L2.how is this even possible,i paid big money for my wave plug ins,but never use them

It could be because you're using presets, are maybe have one set better than the other. Or it can just be preference of color, or lack of color.

The limiter in FL sounds very different. I only tried it a couple of times. It has a smooth sound, which is okay for some things. As far as the fruity compressor, never liked it. But I'm guessing they have a newer one now, maybe. I haven't tried it in years but it was just bleh. That opinion might not apply now, since I guess it has been redesigned by now.

Ran another test today, samething.I can't match the settings cause they made different, but I just feel like I wasted my money on waves, for that kind of money, waves should sound ten times better

Uhh don't know if you have used it but even the presets in the L2 are pretty good.

For some reason I have the feeling that it is the user and not the plugins. I'm not a Waves fanboi or anything (I'd actually recommend a number of plugins first) but they are definitely not lacking anything under the hood. The one thing you have right is that you wasted your money, but it is not because of the product you bought.

if you know what you're doing with limiters and compressors, then you should trust your ears and go with what sounds best to you (one of my favourite synths is a freeware one).

however, if you dont know what you're doing, then learn how to use the plugins you have before you spend anymore big money on 'better' ones (they are only as good as what you can get out of them).

Well I have 6 compressors and I use them all for different things, and the only 3rd party ones I have is rvox and rcomp all the other ones are inside fl studio and studio one. Its all in the user because just because something cost a lot doesn't mean its going to make your mixes great, its a craft that you have to work at.

Well a lot of this really depends on the source material. The L2 is a classic and can be heard on a ton of records out there, but it does not sound good on all material or if not used properly. The L2 gives off some artifacts when pushed and this could be what you are hearing. Again, depending on the material it can make it sound like crap. It would be safe to say that the compressor that comes with FL also gives off it's own sound when pushed as I don't believe either are very transparent like less say the Oxford.

Anyway, I have heard this before that the plugins that come with FL sound better than Waves. I have never done a shootout comparing the two, but it does not seem likely to me. I think if Image Line were able to create plugins with Synth Edit or Synth Maker (can't remember which one they make most of their plugins with) that could be in competition with Waves, it seems that they would create some bundles and start selling them as VST's and RTA's. Even not selling them for half of what Wave Bundles go for you are leaving a lot of money on the table. Now I would agree that the L2 is over priced, like almost all Waves stuff, but I am not sure my FL compressor is on par with my L2. You want to also keep in mind you are comparing a compressor with a limiter and they work differently. The limiter is not working with the whole sound and of course cutting of the sounds above the threshold, in turn the FL compressor is pushing that sound which may sound better with the material you are running through them giving the impression that the compressor sounds better when in fact you just can not hear that part of the sound anymore because the limiter has cut it out.

At the end of this video , you have an obvious example of the difference between compressor and limiter. Not the same beast, not the same sound. No matter the brand of the processor you're using.
