sorry if it's been posted here before, but i would like to use that 'walkie-talkie' effect on my compositions. a good example about what i do want to achieve is the song 'stigmata' by ministry, they actually use this kind of distorted vocals in almost all of their songs. i've read that it's done with a vocoder, but the plugins i tried make it sound like a robot. anyway, i might be missing the point. do you guys know how to do it? thanks in advance.

Try a "lo-fi" effect, drop the sample rate and add some creative EQ. Or most of the yamaha "lo-fi" FX have a radio switch builtin that surprise surprise makes it sound like a radio transmission.

That's a good way, and to make it still a little better, download the freeware VST from iZotope: "Vinyl".
This will help you adding "unwanted" pops, noises, hum, etc... (so actually everything you need for a walkietalkie sound).

Good luck !!

Just use a hi pass or band pass filter and use a lil distortion. And like THM said above, you can use the vinyl plugin for the crackling sounds.

Sound Forge has all of those built in. its a good investment.

thanks for your support. i tried the Waves EQ combined with their RVox plugi and i almost got there. i will try the vinyl and yamaha plugins as soon as possible.

using the soundforge 'distortion' might work if you tweak it with other stuff, because when alone, it only adds noise. quite awful.

the best way i feel to get that Effect is in SoundForge. Take the Audio Wav you want to edit and go to Chorus go to the preset Cheap TV and add that Effect. Then put a little distortion on the Audio File. You can closly Replecate that Effect of the walkie talky!

i was thinking bp filter + distortion/overdrive but i guess thats not too creative
