(Video)Music Prodcer Icons: Polow da Don.. thoughts and opinions??feedback?

anyways, comparing him to Timbo and the Neptunes is very fair might I add that Polow has about the same amount of #1's that they do... thats the other thing that you probably didnt care to research while you were "playing the fool".....

I've done my own research and I'm not seeing that. Would love to see this proof...

Fergie London bridge #1 US
Fergie Glamorous #1 US #1 UK
Nicki # anaconda #1 US like last week lmao
Usher In this club #1 US

those are 3 off the top of my head (he has more) for the billboard hot #100 overall singles charts... Im not counting R&B and other genres because the hot #100 is the hardest chart to get on

Great finds and I cosign the Usher's and Fergie's. The only thing I see Anaconda being #1 at right now is in digital downloads.

If you insist. This is just Timbaland:

Timbaland's 20 Biggest Billboard Hits | Billboard

The biggest difference is both Pharrell and timbaland produced these pop hits over MANY YEARS while still making tons of other top ten hits. They also worked with many lesser selling artists like The Clipse, Nore, Magoo They're way more prolific as far as the extensive discography.

What's all of this supposed to mean - is this his complete discography or #1 hits on various charts?

I don't think anyone is saying the man Polow is straight garbage, but Icon is a strong word for someone that 99% people have no idea exists.

**Mind you I'm a big Polow fan, but I'm just playing devil's advocate. You didn't even include Lil Freak by Usher...c'mon son!

you do know that pharrell hits are not under the neptunes print right? lol also him and chad split after they did that album with snoop..... so you might wanna dig back....... having one #1 is hard as hell to do in the hot 100 overall...... especially competing against country music and blues records... no people have to deal with Dr. Luke and that guy is a problem!!!

btw chad is at foolsgold with A trak.... thought I might add that since I will be covering the neptunes present day in part 2 of my show

That list was from Wiki, and look back at 2010. It's up there.

I realize guys up here judge by what they like. I don't like many Polow Records personally, but I'd never challenge anyone who's calling him a music icon, mogul, visionary, genius, trendsetter, "super producer", ect. He's made a huge impact with records he's produced. I can't take his success as some type of fluke, he's done more than most producers would ever dream of over a fairly short amount of time.

One thing I learned a long time ago...if I can't hear how great something is when everyone else does...as a producer, that's my weak point, not the other way around. I should be able to understand what makes these guys music "work", not brush it off as talentless noise that sheeple are brainwashed into liking, because in the end, if I don't understand what makes them hot, I'll never even make anything as hot to consumers as what they're doing. That means I'll never amount to them while trying to downplay their success.

As a producer, that's the last thing you should want.

Well, as of January this year they were still together and worked 20 straight days in the studio with Pusha T...not really sure where you're getting your information and I see no sources to confirm they broke up. Yes, Pharell has done beats by himself, but that hardly is a "break up".

They also were together publicly at this years NBA All Star Game in February with the below picture:

People really need to stop talking out the sides of their neck and cite relevant sources.

Where exactly do you draw the line between the marketing and the music? If you can't, than it's pointless to analyze songs from strict musical perspective.

Yeah, I stand corrected. i've been so anti radio the last ten years I wasnt aware of his accomplishments. He's definitely been working hard so credit is due.

No line is to be drawn, it's to be understood that marketing serves a purpose and does effect fanbase. But all the marketing in the world won't make you like what you don't like, it simply brings the product to your attention. Biggest excuse in music is that people were brainwashed into liking something. Guys who think they're smarter than everyone else convince themselves this has to be what's happening.

Plenty of people still don't like Miley Cyrus' "Can't Stop" nomatter how many times it's been played for the people who do love it. As a consumer, you have the right to just "not like' stuff. As someone who does this for a profession, if you can't recognize what the consumers are attracted to whether you like it or not, you WILL NOT have a long career. You won't know how to recognize a hit. Now...how far will that take you?

I do give Polow his credt - out of many of the more recent producers I hear promoted on this site Polow is probably at the top of my list in terms of respect I have for him. Icon is just a tough word for me to use because I consider that to be Top 1%. Polow is a beast and makes beats I try to emulate, but I can't personally put him up there with Max Martin and Timbo.

Listen to the Combat Jack Show and you will hear EVERY week the pioneers discuss the music industry and how it's a joke nowadays. Your boys Ebro and Rosenberg who run Hot97 were just openly pan fried by all of the Hip Hop (not Rap) community for having the balls to think they were bigger than Chuck D and Hip Hop. The past few weeks he's had Chuck D, Freddie Foxxx, Common, Pete Rock, D-Nice. It's not always about how good your music is to get on the radio and make "hits" - it's about who is funding your projects.

In Canada, the radio stations are forced to play AT LEAST 40% airplay of artists local to their airwaves. Why do we only hear the same bamas (Drake, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, DJ Mustard) over and over again NATIONWIDE? I hear songs on the daily that aren't even in the TOP 40 Nationwide - why is that????

Very true and there is much to be said about a producer who can not only see in something they don't necessarily enjoy what other's can. I remember hearing a Rick Rubin interview where he broke down how he became a fan of Lil Jon and the Eastside Boyz - they didn't really create music so much as they created chants and mantras which is still an a talent. A great producer can use what it is that radio fans enjoy about the current trend while also infusing some of their own personality which is something that is difficult, but necessary if you intend on making radio songs.
