my birthday is comin up, and i wanted to get a mixer in the 2-300 dollar price range. i heard the vestax pmx06 is good, but it seems so small. i was wondering if you guys could tell me if it has curve control? and is its size deceiving, is it really a good mixer regardless of size?

. Double panel system and photo-coupler crossfader system with curve adjustment meet pro requirements.

I guess i answered my own question about curve control, but what is a double panel system, and what is a photo-coupler crossfader. thanks, and i would still like to hear your opinions about the mixer.

PMC 06

the 06 is what I use, it's mostly for a battle DJ so he (or She) can keep the table closer together. I personally don't like having my tables that close together but the mixer works fine for everything I do. As far as the double panel system goes I have no idea what thats for but the photo coupler fader is for scratching my man.......it enables you to cue in the other record in a shorter distance on the fader, uuum that didn't sound right, but if you scratch you will definetly see a use for it. If you are just into mixing then get something cheaper....

i scratch a lot with a littel mixing here and there, but i am kinda pissed that my current mixer is a piece of crap, bleeds like a *****, and has crappy cut in time so i think i'll go with this mixer.

one more thing chuman, does the vestax pmc06 have bass, mids, and trebles?

check vestax.com ..

to answer your question:
no only bass and treble.. but you can use the gain to finetune the mid section.. a little less treble and a bit more gain gives your more mid..

you'll hear/feel it when it sounds right :)

give me the light...

Photo-coupler fader has the same theory as the focus fader. Where they use an LED-emitter and a coupler (receiver) to determine the position of your crossfader (at the end positions only). Imagine it this way... It's like a light switch - only on or off, nothing in between. I'm not sure if the PMC-06 has curve contour or not. But the curve contour doesn't work on the Focus Fader (Stanton).

dj jinx, about the photo coupler fader. on my current mixer, depending on where the fader is on the slot, the volume of the channels varies. so you are saying if i'm scratching on the left table, as long as the fader is slightly open, i am hearing the left table at full volume?

The Vestax PMC-06 is a good mixer. Excellent step up for the beginner scartch dj who is serious of enhancing your skills. For the price, the 06 is a good choice...i'd get it rather than the Stanton. True it is slim, but that was designed for less distance b/w the tables. Basically, its a beat juggler mixer because of its slim size. The double panel faceplate is beneficial for scratch dj's because it hides all the screws that obstruct the faders. Look at cheaper mixers, your finger nails could get snagged on a screw while scratching...the doble panel system uses another faceplate with screws around the edges only, leaving the mixer surface smooth and flat. The photo-coupler fader is not for cueing, but is the way that the fader controls sound via light diodes and how strong/weak the light emision is determines how sharp (or strong) the sound it will output. This allows a fine "true" curve adjustment, rather than pre-set settings on how much of a "curve adjustment" the fader really has. Also, a lot of 06 owner DONT KNOW is that the up-faders have a curve adjustment. Yes, you read that right! It you take off the gold-face plate and look inside the mixer, right beside the channel faders you will see a light switch type of toggle swtich. It has 3 settings you can adjust it to. Unfortunately you cannot adjust this on the fly like some more expensive mixers because its internal -AND- the curve isnt that sharp (totally NOT like the crossfader curve). Oh, and the 06 has a hamster switch (if you didnt already know, it flips the crossfader channel around, making them control the opposite table)...it was the first Vestax mixer to have a hamster switch. I've had an 06 before and it is a great beginner mixer. Oh, just to let you know as well, there is no mic input but hey, we're scratching..not singing :)

If you have any other questions, just post it up.

Peace!

i do a little mixing also, can i still mix tracks even though its a battle mixer?

It wasn't made for mixing but I'm sure you could. No mids but it does have curve adjustment for the crossfader.

glad to hear that, the mixer i have now doesnt have mids either, so what the hell.

It is fine for mixing. I've made numerous mix tapes (both house and hiphop demos) with the mixer. The crossfader can be adjusted accordingly to your needs. It's true it doesnt have a mid eq, but then do you really need it? I can see the need for it if you're doing some house music and you need the eq cuts for a "muffled" effect, but then you wouldnt need this kind of mixer anyways. "If" you can shell out the cash, get the RANE TTM-56...that mixer is butter! I have it and it can be used for house music applications. The eq's have a "true" kill where you can completely turn off a certain frequency.

the word is MIXer

u can mix on any mixer, just b/c it doesn't have a million eqs doesn't mean u cant mix.. and u dont even have to **** with the curve control, just mix with the ups... thats usually want most dj's do anyways. also the 06 was my first mixer and i've have it for about 2 -1/2 years now. I have never had a problem with it, beside that i needed a new cross fader after a year and a half.. but that would happen with anymixer besides the 56. honestly for the money, the 06 has my vote for the best battle/scratch mixer out there. its not a techno mixer, but it does its job 100% for hip hop djing.
