I just picked one up off eBay.

I'm confused about the Line Out's, there labeled 1 and 2, instead of Recording and Master.

Should i run my cables out of 1 or 2 for recording?
 
They are both the master output, just across 4 outs. Pick either one, it doesn't matter.

so what's the difference between the master and recording outs on dj mixers, who have the outs seperated respectively?

i'm sure there's gotta be a difference

and what would be the disadvantage of recording from a master out compared to recording from a recording out?
 
Master outputs usually have variable gain, ie you can turn them up or down. Depending on the mixer master outputs can be capable of professional level signals, several volts worth.

Record outs are generally fixed gain with max output at -10db, the consumer signal level standard.

Master outs are usually a xlr or trs, record outs are often rca.

The disadvantage of recording from a master out is that it can change with your mains level over the course of the night and that it is very easy to clip consumer recording devices.

As long as you maintain a constant level and avoid overloading the inputs of your recording device there is nothing wrong with using master outs to record.
 
hmmmm also i know that new x-faders are real stiff.....

so i bought the radio shack cleaner/lubricant for faders, sprayed that on... and it didn't help at all.

when i take a real close look at the 06 cross fader and the up faders, it looks like a slim rod is what the fader is sliding across....

i looked at my friends pmc-05, his looks completely different, and it's much much smoother....

anyway, my point is, i thought the 05 and 06 faders were all the pro vestax mixer series crossfaders were all the same.

the guy i bought this mixer from on ebay was really shady, and said he had to switch out the fader because it was bleeding, even though in the auction it was listed as in perfect condition.

is it possible that he put a real ****ty vestax fader on the 06, and i don't know about it? or is that not possible and i'm being paranoid?

Older vestax models had ALPS crossfaders, and the never ones have PCV faders (which are supposed to last longer). You sound like you have ALPS faders. I actually prefer them, because I got very used to them after having vestax mixers for awhile. Get some Caig lube and see if that helps. And as far as outputs, the vestax mixers are kind of lacking. Just be careful and make sure to aviod large peaks when recording, and you should be fine.

do they alps faders have similar cut-in time as the pcv faders?

That is all subjective man. I preferred the cut in and general feel of the ALPS, but most of the rest of the world seemed to prefer both on the PCV. If you can, go try them both. They will both work in the mixer, so if worse comes to worse, just buy a new one that you like...

yea... argh....

i thought the pmc-06, and pmc-05 were relatively new enough to be all equipped with pcv faders....

i was very surprised that mine didn't have that....=(
 
Alps faders rock! Had one on a Stanton and now one on a Vestax.
