I was always thought UK/2 step garage was breakbeat!
So what kinda beat does UK garage use? The more I hear it, the more I see that it seems to be a slowed-down, d&B track (and NOT a very good one at that) overlaid with R&B vocals.
Okay, that was an over generalisation!
I guess the commercial stuff doesn't do the genre any favours!
The only decent (IMHO) UK garage I've heard so far is stuff by MJ Cole...

The main difference between UK and US Garage, other than being faster, was the use of heavy sub-bass which had more in common with drum 'n' bass or reggae than traditional house or garage.
