If you're having trouble finishing, try setting a deadline. Sometimes a time limit forces you to make decisions and move on. Sometimes it works for me.

That's the trouble I'm having. I want to direct my projects because I have this awesome sound in my head, but I just can't ever seem to get it down. What say you?

Well, i'd suggest learning some theory, sound design and training your ears/ brain. You need to be able identify the sounds you are dreaming up and learn how to translate it into music. Practice recreating songs you hear on the radio etc... Learn how to identify scales, chords, wave forms, effects, etc.... If you start getting good at it, you'll be in a better position to do it with sounds you hear in your head.

same shit here man lol everytime i make a beat, i'm like "this shit bangs" but after a while, "**** this shit" lol.. one of the main reasons is the bassline tho, im fightin to understand what's the best way to match the melody with the 808's.. tuning the 808's n all that..
...Autotune!

Hell its even good to take breaks for a couple of days,, your not gonna lose what you learn if you take some time off, good way to clear your mind and come back stabbin at the beat a day or so later, and dont ever feel rushed to kick out tracks, it all comes with time and experience, make sure your tunes are the way you want them, dont rush it put it out online then sit there a week later thinking Damn i wish i would of done that and that and that,

I have to agree with DJR on this one.. Music rarely just "happens", unless you just use loops that is.. Understanding how to turn whats in your head to aural sex is a massive challange. Understanding sound design will have you pumping out tracks in no time.. ?Best of luck
