read this month's Richie Hawtin DE9 feature in Jockey Slut !!!
Read the thing about the Final Skratch !!!
You'll be amazed, promise !!

could you post the jist of it? i cant find Jockey Slut over here, and putting it into Yahoo just yields Horsie Porn...

well..

I can't say all the details, but it comes down to this: there's a laptop connected to a Technics, and with one record he can use all the tracks he's got on his laptop as they were on record !!!!!
So say, he wants to mix / scratch / backspin a Jeff Mills track, he just selects one on the laptop and...boom: the record laying on his deck becomes Jeff Mills !!!
I hope u understand what I mean !

so, basicly, that one piece of vinyl is worth like a 1000 tracks, and you can do anything with the tracks you can do with a normal vinyl !!!!!!!

Here's the official homepage.
http://www.finalscratch.com/flash/index.html

Some people have already discussed about it here, seems really nice.

BTW moving to Dj Equipment, it's really difficult to categorize it, because it's software but involves hardware too, hence I moved it here.

Cool!!!

Wow! This is indeed revolutionary! I mean, it brings all the goods from digital technology (ease of use, precision, sound quality and at-hand recording capabilities) to analog level and feel... they're up to something w/ this definitelly... I can immagine arriving at a club carrying just a notebook shock full of tracks, the interface thingie and a couple of 12"s, connecting it all to a mixer and start playing w/out further mess... sounds promissing.

;)

wouldn't like it... definitely wouldn't like it.
I'm not ever going to use a computer screen in my mixing. I hate it. And mp3's ain't good quality.
I wan't my darn vinyls

sure it has good points and bad points - im gonna reserve judgement till someone lets me play around with one - or till i hear someone's opinion who's actually tried it out

gotta say, i still likes my vynil

Hmmm... open mind... like a parachute, he.... yeah....:p

Give Me a Go!!!

I want to try this - it sounds quality.

And by the way, I've got MP3's at 320 KBPs, and believe me, through my stereo set-up, u couldn't tell the difference between them and CD.

Of course it is, this whole "sound quality this, sound quality that" bable is nonsense. No one could tell a good file from a good 12" over the same, powerfull soundsystem.

Bad quality comes in all formats, just as good quality does. I've got some nasty sh*tz on vinyl, and I've got some good stuff on CD. I agree MP3 in more prone to suck, generally speaking, but this is no argument to defend vinyl. If you love vinyl, then cool, play it, assume it and live happy.

Final scratch sounds like the dumbest idea I've heard in a while. I guess thats just me. Analog forever. If you (financialy) support underground artists and like audiophile sound Viynl is the ONLY option. I like seeing the break down on viynl. Viynl is valuable

Yeah the reason mp3 is more prone to be of worse quality is that there's one step more in the production of it.
You'll have to sample it from another existing media. If that one is already bad, you can tweak what you want, you won't improve much. And also the way you make the mp3's are important.
But yeah if the person who makes the files is competent, it is very hard, sometimes impossible to tell the difference between a hardware media and an mp3. (Besides, powerful soundsystems are not always aiming at quality sound either, just sheer power).

but are you guys sure it's MP3 ?

If I'm not wrong, it plays ANY digital format, ie WAVE, MP3, et al...

Tricky: definitelly... open mindedness is easy to talk but hard to practise (and find:rolleyes: )

Housie: most djs ain't audiophiles, our decks, mixers, amps and even our beloved vinyl cost and perform a 100th of true audiophile's equipment so it does not compare...

To say deejays are love vinyl just for its sound is, IMHO, bull... it's hands-on and our unbeatable tool in many ways, bla bla bla... BUT if this thing keeps what really matters, sounds as promissed and allows me to carry 10 times less weight plus 10 times more music, then I WANT ONE! :D

very very true alex :) weve gone thru this a zillion times already :D I guess everyone has to start somewhere.

i heard someone talking about this on another forum. but they said it was going to be a pioneer unit that wasn't released yet. dunno?

these newfangled gadgets.....just makin' us all craaaaaaazy

i don't play CD s anymore :D bwaha
anyway... if you need 2 turntables anyway, i'd rather have my vinyl with me than a pc...

am i getting the piss taken here?? i like to think i'm quite open to new ideas and new perspectives, but im not trying to say that im a totally open-minded person. everyone has predjudices - my sig is to remind me to be more open minded, as it always has been

that's all
