To all ASCAP or BMI members

Sup y'all, need some advice.

I got a publishing deal but now I need to sign up with ASCAP or BMI. I'm most likely going to sign with ASCAP. Anyway, I've tried getting a hold of them for some questions but the damn line was busy...

my questions are:

1) Is it OK to give my ASCAP or BMI member # to the publisher? I would think so since they need to let the PRO know. But i'm very skeptical about giving out my info without knowing the risks.

2) How do I actually register my music with ASCAP or BMI? Do I send them music tracks or just give them the name of the songs?


I Tried called BMI and ASCAP today but the line has been busy the whole time I called.

I really appreciate the advice in advance. Also feel free to educate me more on this

how did you get a pub deal without being with a pro?

and like my friend mention, pub companies and pros need to correspond to each other to serve you properly.

I have a gut feeling something is wrong, something fishy with the pub company.
