Tired of R Kelly doing Dancehall and calling it RnB

I know different genres influence each other, but take it to another level. Lately, he just release alot of typical dancehall beats with Hip Hop or RNB artist on them and calling it RnB. The thing is that he doesn't use any reggae artist on his beats, so most of his fans who don't know will probably start classifiying that sound as RNB and not giving credit where credit is due

I don't like the idea either. But they call Shaggy reggae so I can't blame them I guess.

please dont double post ur threads. i deleted the other one like this. thanks

i'm more tired of seeing 14-year old white kids from the suburbs claiming they love reggae cause they bought Sean Paul's CD, and they don't even understand half the words that're bein spit at them...

I'm a white kid from the suburbs, but i've educated myself about it to the point where i feel comfortable saying i love reggae.

and yes, i understand all the words...;)

yeah maybe he will call it dance hall and b,but seriously,u must admit its a nice blend, kelly allways adds some class to his productions,i think he started some, that blend with "sex me"that tune.but iaint think it is as bad as this raggatone bull****,rican catts, talkin bout they takin reggae to the next level.....catts need to wake up,.....there is NO MUSIC ATALL, LIKE ROOTS REGGAE...any body else.heard these cats talkin bout raggatone..?holla........curlz............holla back

dude sean's mom is half white (her mum is from england) and half chinese, his dad is of porteguese descent (jamaican but i think the henriques family came over from cuba originally) with maybe a little mix up in him

to me that = 3/4 european, 1/4 asian

sean gets marketed as being a little more "black" on purpose, but take away the cornrows and the tan and the clothes...

aiont it something how we all came from that same pot,........?some of us come out with luil more gravy, on us more sa;lt , potatoes, etc.mixed stuff taste so good together eh.?its a good thing we all look and act duifferent,.but yet we all feel the same things, pain peace, hate grief,..so on and so on......what a wonderful.....world......peaCE

so....

anyone with cronrows, a tan, and some baggy clothes is seen as "black"?

there's a term i use for people with the outlook that you have - it's "DPR"

Distorted Perception of Reality.

Actually you are correct, that was a poor choice of words on my part.

But I would still say that Sean is marketed as something he is not, whatever you would like to characterise that "something" as. That kind of marketing is not really unexpected in this biz, it is just something i find amusing since i have known sean since before he was in music.

any one with atan, and rows is black?my friend tell some of the catts frontin, lilly white, and some tan, that they black,or aint black, they should stop frontin,.but hey they figure if it will get me beat up and get girls oh well.......so if you know anything bout culture,....you would not have said that...eminem thinks he,s black.........i dont see no corn rows .....im sure he would like to do them ,who know maybe when the shady steam is going out ,he will ....get the rows....who knows..........peace

you know, like i said it was a poor choice of words on my part, you can accept that or not

my bigger beef is that i would like to see artists for what they are- case in point- take someone like ziggy marley- i see him on TV getting interviewed and all you hear is some overdone patois and some BS answers to questions like "oh yeah ah jus the runnings" to some specific questions- now in the case of ziggy, i went to high school with him and stephen, they both are very articulate individuals but they put on this front cause they or their handlers think it is what people want to see- how come we can't hear a dancehall artist who can go and really project themselves articulately to the rest of the world- beenie too, last time i saw him on BET he looked and sounded like a truck had just run over him. there are a few out there who IMHO do represent properly, but everyone else just wants to bling jamaican style (which these days is mostly a copy of hip hop bling)

ok enough ranting

Yow engineroom,

You went to George's man? I'm a Calabar dude. Yea green and black. A friend of mine who knows Sean (we all went to college at the same time) is in the States now and says that the people in Denver all think that Sean Paul is the greatest dancehall artist ever. Little do they know that he can't sell out a venue here. That's what I find funny. They never even heard of Beenie and Bounty.

I feel what you're saying about articulating properly. Sean does it well. I mean he went to UTECH so I think he should be able to do it ok. Jr. Gong also does a good job at interviews. And contrary to popular belief, Shabba is not as dumb as he sounds. His answers to questions are hilarious but he gets his point across. Shaggy needs to drop the twang when he is interviewed by foreign media. He sounds totally different here.

I feel what you're saying definitley. alot of rap guys embarrass the sh!t out of their culture when they get interviewed. but it's not just inarticulate appearances that embarrass the embassadors of black music culture. case in point. the diane sawyer interview of whitney. she looked the damned fool on that primetime special. i almost cried when she said "crack is wack". She's extremely well spoken for goodness sakes!!! it's less forgivable to see that than when an artist like cam'ron goes on bill o'reilly factor and acts dumb because we all know cam is a fool assed negro. it's exspected.

oh yeah, one thing bout sean paul u goit to give it up to him,he tals his raw native talk, nuff respect for that,.shaggy, has the american down pack, but forsure,we know the west indies schooling is much higher than here and slang patois or what, bahamians, trinis, turks and caicos, jamaica people are very articulate ,...thanks to the queens english...peace.......engine room.....nuff said ....
