I was watching the Timbaland diary and on this clip:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZsvegCOtj-4

when Busta was messing with the keys one of the keys played a loop of this percussive rhythm.

Is this a stock sound, sample or something timbaland created?

How would one go about creating something like this?

Its nothing but a loop that timbo had assigned to a key. Probably something he found off of a sample cd or percussion loops cd...I got my triton loaded with loops thats assigned to each of my keys so when i'm working on a track i can audition those percussion loops on the fly just by hitting any key to trigger the percussion loop while the beat is playing to see what would go nice with it. Real simple to accomplish

well obviously it was a loop. i should of been more clear.

my question is how did he make this loop?

did he sample it? program it? or did he record it himself with his own instruments?

earlier in the interview you hear busta talk about how timbaland made a beat with a plastic cup and some pencils. this makes me think that timbaland records his own loops. but i wasn't sure.

that drum loop was sampled straight out of the song featured in the Kill Bill movie...

Claps, castanets, it's easy :) Just be creative. Timbo is. :)

yeah i know the percussive elements in those loops but i just don't see how he can program that. how would he go about programing the different pitch changes on the different hits?

I think that he just plays these things himself. it would make a lot more sense and be a lot easier.

trjeam, that's easy, it's just a usual pattern making. When you create a percussion loop and you want to have the snares on different pitches, you just hit different keys. Record the whole thing alltogether, make it a whole loop with extra claps or whatever, then put that specific loop on a specific key, and then, when Busta sits in your studio and plays with your keyboard, he will hit that note and freak out! LOL

^^^ LOL LOL

But yeah, it was probably a sample... But im guessing if u want something like that, you'll oprobably have to play it out live (some parts of it)

just sample it from the same source

I thought I was the only one who caught that. It's from this Japanese composer and it was featured on Kill Bill 1 when The Bride was getting ready to fight Lucy Lui in the snow.

Its not made by a japanese composer. The name of the song is "Don`t Let Me Be Misunderstood" by Santa Esmeralda. This is one of the pattern arrangements for the beat I was making 2 years ago. I abandoned the project shortly after I started it.

I think 90 percent of THE GREAT TIMBO'S work is sampled, no offense to samplers, but it is what it is. He is a great producer(one of my favorites) but he samples somuch sh!t, its all on your sources and how you flip them. Ever wondered why Timbalands sound is so unique, because he doesn't sample what everybody else samples from, he get that other sh!t that nobody over here is really looking at, all that Arab and Indian muzik type sh!t. I bet if you found a good source that nobody is using you'll be one of the best when it comes to sampling plus you gotta know how to freak it, but I know it will work.

Now that I'm listening closer, that is not the same sample as the kill bill song.
