which do you think is a better keyboard and also a better sequencer and why?

I used to borrow the X5 from a friend and don't remember it having a sequencer or it being a workstation at all (no sampling etc).

The 01/W is a workstation I think (sampler, sequencer, etc).

I loved the X5... It is hard to explain what was special about it, but I enjoyed very much layering multiple patches and triggering them all at once. Great textures and inspiring pads. I used to just sit in front of it and play for hours on end.

I don't know well the X5, however, it is newer than 01 and of course, it have some technological advantages (like polyponia)

I have had a 01w/fd since 1991... used for almost 13 years and i can tell you is one of the best machines ever made...
even now it is not state-of-the-art (it used to be), is still is used and demanded.

Very great acoustic sounds... even today it surpasses many actual synts. If you compare the flagship Piano of the 01 ant the flagship piano on a JV, Karma, even S series from yamaha... the 01 piano is much musical....

Beauty, reliable, powerful, the 01 is a great machine, made with quality...
I own one and i will never sale it...

X5D is a great synth with good sounds. But it's not a workstation so it doesn't come with a sequencer or a sampler.

Peace I remember when I was looking for a keyboard I had a love affair with the korg N362 I went so far as to put it on layaway LOL but a funny thing happened on the way to the forum..I noticed in the used section(and the price was right) The Korg O1W. I had done extensive research at the time and decided that this was the one for me. Well Im glad to say that although numerous other keyboards have come in my studio(including that triton)I still use my O1W when im making tracks!! I liked its features and the fact that it has a sequencer!! remember that no equipment is really played out its all about how you use it.. Yes I know the thirst for "New Sounds" has us buying everthing that hits the shelf but how many sequencer/cd burners/drum pads/// do you really need in order to make good music?

no waveshaping

and I think the X5 does not have the "waveshaping" which makes the sounds on 01/W more characteristic :)

I have uploaded 01/W and 03R/W .mp3s on my site.
01 has waveshaping and 03 has no waveshaping. So the latter sounds closer to X5.
While 01's waveshaping generates very unique sounds for pads and noises, 03 also is a decent rompler with good sound quality.

The older Korg AI romplers sound much warmer IMHO: M1, T Series, 01 Series. The AI2 romplers: X series and particularly the cut-down X5 sounded cheaper and cheesier to my ears. Build quality on the earlier units was superior as well, as was the key action.
