The difference between hip hop producers and rock producers

When i first heard about all the different producers that were out there and who was making the beats and music that i liked behind the artists thats when i rerlised that sometimes several songs could all be done by the same producer such as scott storch, ex when he had let me love you candy shop and lean back all at a similiar time, and you can hear the comparason they have the similar structures and sounds, thats what i love about hip ho that the producers in this game can have their own styles and get to work with severel artist instead of just working with 1 particular band which ive noticed what rock producers tend to do. They can only work on mostly 1 band and much of their style can not be shown on the record cuz its usually the band that has the choice of sounds they want. This is not bad in some cases but its good to have your own style and be able to use that with other artists. So really doesnt that make this hip hop game more of a producers game then an artists game
 
I produce for both styles. I'm working on a rock demo with my friend and he realy lets me have about as much control as he and his band do. Every thing I've writen for him has had a hiphop influence and a touch of my style but remained true to rock. As for hiphop, when an artist has no control over their material, then it can be more of a prodcers game. A lot of artists co-produce their records so the producer isn't always in "complete" control. But of course without us it be just a bunch of people sayin words....maybe a lil beat boxin here and there....
 
rock producers dont really get recognition, but i think theres more money in it. i dabble in that **** for my course- handling artists and motivating them to play all sorts of ****ing instruments to high standards is probably the biggest challenge...
 
With rock as opposed to hip hop, theres a band that actually can where more than one "hat"... maybe two of the guys compose chords and write melody's... they all play instruments...(though sometimes a session guy can fill in)... the rock producer would be the guy that says "you know what, i think we should slow the tempo down...." or "lets use soft percussion at the beginning until the first chorus, and then bring in more sounds from the kit..." the rock producer is big on arrangements, feel and structure(which is alot) and adding the bells and whistles to complete the track...
 
compare the Beatles' anthology songs with the final releases. That shows you the importance of a (rock) producer.
 
A rock producer is a different beast than a hip hop producer. Hip hop producers are generally resposible for the musical bed that the artist performs over. He is often relagated to a song or two on the album. Rock producrs however are often given reign over the entire album. They may or may not be responsible for any major songwriting, depending on the producer, but they are entirely responsible for the SOUND of the album. Since they produce the entire project, its a cohesive unit, instead of a pastiche of different visions.

Since a band is self contained, and generally write their own music, the producer will responsible for taking those songs, and making sure that they are commercially viable. They may suggest arrangement changes, help with hooks, and they are very big in the mixing process.

With hip hop producers, a good 70%, they are not even in the studio when the song is being recorded. They just submit the beat.
 
Not to mention rock producers usually do whole album, not a single.

it's an artistic composition made up of selections from different authors or works.
