I'm curious to know how the forum as a whole defines a sell-out... I know it could be a lil off topic but yeah....
How would define being a sell-out?

So I was on the couch naked eatin cheetohs. A man pops up on the tv and says "are you sad?" I said no. He said "are you lonely?" I said no. He said "are you naked on your couch eatin cheetohs?" I said holy sheot!!,got dressed and clicked on this topic.

A sell-out,in the context given,is defined as one who sacrifices his original cause for some type monetary gain or otherwise noted increase in status. The rapper known as 2pac is a good example for this. His "thug life" movement went from making it despite of ostacles, mostly white oppression to being literally about thugging. Before he died he was representing Bloods on wax ( you think you da mob?we da mob!! 151 MOB Piru is Suge's set),yet also a Five Percenter. I have a Vibe Tupac edition which confirms it;page 97. Jay-Z..is no sellout

Jay is the definition of a modern day sell-out; someone who swag-jacks and will do anything possible to stay relevant. Dude has NEVER had a style of his own, dating all the way back to the Originators **** with Jaz-O. Follow his swag and rap topics from album to album and you'll notice that it's different each time, because he was ****in with different people each time. He was big on that dope boy fresh **** when he met Dame, on that thug **** when Beans and them came around, on that all-black-everything after he started ****in with Kanye... what's next?

Jay's a good rapper and entertainer but he's never really had a style of his own. Yeah...a distinct and unique voice but never had his own swag. He'll do anything to stay relevant. Him staying relevant this long is quite a feat in and of itself so you gotta respect him for that... but dude is definitely NOT a trend-setter.

You're quite ignorant of Jay-Z if you believe what you typed.

i do agree with alot of this but to say hes not a trendsetter is ridiculous

A sell-out is someone who committed suicide, imitating is suicide. Everyone has their own voice, and everyone should find their own voice, we all imitate at some point, but we should not become a copy.

Don't step into someone elses footsteps or you won't leave any footsteps yourself.

in the eyes of the public he's a trendsetter, yes. I guess thats all that really matters at the end of the day anyway...

but he just adopts swag, style, everything from the people around him and HE has the power to turn that into a trend because of his name.

I used to work at a liqour store when I was a kid stockin shelves and at one point just about every guy that was comin in was asking literally "For that **** that Jay drinks...what's it called?" I used to LOL at that like "dude do you REALLY want to be sippin pink wine? you aint Jay bro..."

I can't wait til the day im rich & people callin me a sell-out.
Thats basically it if you got money and moved outta tha hood for the most part your a sell out when it comes to music if you switch up you styles away from what you originally were your a sell out fucc artist growth your a sell out but if you stay the same your whole career your just a grumpy old rapper that need to follow the new trends to stay relevent or so says people on FP

I would rather be a rich "sell out" than be broke "keeping it real". SIMPLE AS! if making POP music is gonna make me rich then ill make that **** allllllll day long!

There have never been any sell outs... ever.

It was a made up term like "hater"

Nobody can name a sell out.

Somehow in rap music... people switched the term SUCCESSFUL to sell out.

... and opinionated to HATER...

How can a preacher call himself... Creflo A Dollar...

There have been loads of sell outs

remember the White Boys, produced by Marley Marl?

I asked a question the other day;

Money vs Integrity

a sellout is a person who chooses money over integrity

I agree with Rome completely.

But for the sake of this thread, I present to you, The Black Eyed Peas:

Pre-Fergie

Post-Fergie

Sellin out at its finest...
