I got a second hand technics mixer a few weeks back and its been working like a work horse sent from heven but lately my 2nd ch (B) is playing up, then i play a record on my right deck i only get sound from 1 Speaker but if i play one on me left deck it plays in both. Now please can anyone tell me what is wrong. also if i switch my red and white aux around (red in white and white in red) then it switches speaker.

I'm sorry to hear.... Technics never really made good mixers...'

I remember a mate of mine owned the 2 ch. DMC technics mixer - not long after the crossfader started to bleed like it got hit by dark vaders light saber - straight thru the cross fader - so call lucas on the 2 way pager and tell him that technics ain't no saviour - ya know what - I'mma save my rhymes fo later. (hehe)

great, i think the crossfader is one ov its pluses its the best c/f i have used the cut is mint but you are right cos when i got the mixer it only came with one spare ch/f
so would you say i need a new mixer then or is it fixable

you're prolly better of upgrading my man - there are so many good 2 ch. scratch mixers out there to choose from - you'd might aswell go shopping :)

I mean you could fix it but that's gotta take time and money... but if technics is easy to reach in your area then that's o'k' - I know in sydney it's not....

well the mixer only cost me 150 pound and i can take it back but i have looked around and that is the best mixer i can find for that money, any ideas, cos i think i will be lowering the class of mixer, ''so to speak''

deejay d, i found the problem and it wasn't my mixer it was my cartridge, one of my wires had snaped. any ideas on fixing it

Get a new one, thats going to be a bother. Plus if not done well it might give you problems later on such as distortion, cutting, huming etc. What kind of cartridges are they?

stanton 500 ll's with 505 stylus. i know that their are not the best but i can't afford any new one's yet as i have just got the mixer, do you know if the numark concords (carl cox one's) are any good cos i will need to up-grade soon?

I have never heard anything bad about them per say. They are a typical entry level set up but they are supposed to have a good ride and good low end and overall frequency response. I know they are not good for scratching though so if you scratch alot or if you are one of those DJ's who constantly cue the record while waiting to drop by constantly moving the record back and forth at your cue point I dont think I would reccomend them. But as a typical plug and play budget needle I'm sure they would work more than fine and I have never heard any complaints.

i have got to say i am one of those dj's who likes to back cue alot, i love the sound and feel of vinyl and im learning how to scrach so i guess i need some good ones but the stanton i have now are fine for scratching so what stantons shud i look for? "if any"

I am a Progressive DJ so needless to say I dont scratch. But the Shure 447's are down right nasty for scratching. I personally wouldnt reccomend any Stantons for scratching, but thats just me. Someone with quite a few years experience with scratching might be able to shed a little more light on the situation. Personaly I would look at the Shure M447's or the Ortofon Elektro's. But if your on a tight budget I dont think you can afford either of those but you should save up if you can. Otherwise Maybe the Stanton 520's or something would work. This is about as much input as I can give you. Like I said you might want to check with some experienced Hop Hop DJ's.

im a hardhouse/hard trance dj my self, but im only trying scratchin' to improve my flexibilty behind the dex to generate my own style.

thank you for you input adamEly

I mix hardhouse/trance mainly, I use ortofon concorde nightclub s, sound quality is exellent on them & judging on the carts ive had b4 i dont get any problems with them while scatching, but they cost around 120 quid

Shure for sure. saying that, the Ortofon Scratch carts are pretty nice

Hi there -s orry - was away from work for a day so I didn't get a chance to look at the forum.

o'k' - yes I think you might aswell change the carts, Shures are the best in terms of scratching and the outpur levels, but they are pricey at the same time....

Ortofon Electro's are actually not bad carts if you're into dance music because they give off really good sound - and that's what dance music is focussed on. They will deal with your constant back cueing that's no problem but might not be a good idea to start practicing crabs or chirps on it lol because they weren't built for hard scratching. but they will stand up to your occasional scratches - but this also depends on your decks and tonearm aswell.

in the stanton you do get some nice sounding carts - but with my experience with em, none will actually live up to complicated scratches like the Shures do.

the Qbert line in ortofon are also nice if you're interested - they also come in Concordes so they are catered to both hiphop and dance Dj's. and they do have a very high output.

but in saying all that - you'd have to have a mixer they will beable to translate those attributes on to the dance floor - so eventually whatever you decide on will also be affected by your all rounded setup.

If you're not sure what to get.... go with Shures lol (M44-7's or M44'gs)

Niceone guy's, i'll take it its shures then but my only problem with the standed shape carts is that it is harder to see the needle in the groove. i think i can ask my girlfriend for a pair of ortofon concords for christmas if she's not feeling tight. "no pun intended" Tanks guys!!

my set-up is simple, here it is:

2x gemini pt2100
1x technics shex-1200
2x stanton 505 ll's with tech's headshells

hardtance, hardhouse, techno, hardstyle + jump style

so now my question is, witch cart's to suit my set-up and style, ortofon or shure's. plz help before xmas lol

Well being its EDM and your scratching will be minimal. Try and find the Ortofons for a good price.
