Hello,

I was looking into buying one of these two fx processors but I wasn't sure which one yet. I was wondering if anybody has tried these or has one and can let me know more about these machines.

Thanks

You are talking SERIOUS POWER if you go either route.

The Fireworx is a slightly different beast than the Eclipse though in that it's not a general multi-fx unit. It's more of a "sound mangling unit" for lack of a better term. You can get AMAZING results from this machine but it is extremely demanding in terms of complexity. That's why I ended up selling mine.

The Eventide I haven't used yet but have read reviews and from using past products I can tell you that Eventide is the Cat's Balls!! I would say the Eventide would be way more useful in a studio where you don't already have a dedicated reverb, comp, delay, etc as it does all this and more and does it great. The TC unit would probably be best in a studio where you have several other units dedicated to those common tasks but need that "special something" to give your recordings an edge.

You won't be disappointed in either I would guess.

Expect to pay through the nose though for both. The Fireworx can be had for like 1500 new but check the used market as you can get a real good deal. The eventide I belive is priced at almost 3,000 dollars. It's a serious purchase and should be seriously thought about before you purchase. Keep in mind your other options. For the price of the eventide you can buy 4 or 5 quality processors.

Good luck with whatever you buy.

If you have more questions feel free to post or email.

peace,

The street price on the Eventide Eclipse is just over $1700 USD...the price on the t.c. FireworX is slightly lower. Of course, you can pick up a used FireworX for anywhere from $1000-$1300. I bought my FireworX used with a t.c. Master Fader for $1250 around 18 months ago.

The fundamental difference between the two units is the Eclipse is a dual-engine processor, similar in philosophy to a Sony DPS-V77 in that it has two “slots” for a range of algorithms, whereas the FireworX is a modular-style effects unit that allows for user-design of the total processing chain.

I think many people’s perception of the FireworX as a “mangling” tool is derived from the fact that so many of its presets do just that - in an effort to show off the unit’s capabilities. Make no mistake, if you need straightforward multi-fx, the FireworX can deliver with a killer professional sound.

Both are fantastic units that can do some wonderful processing. In deciding between the two, I think the decision would come down to your facility with programming, the sound of each unit’s algorithms and the other gear in your setup.

At least for a taster, you can download the manual for each of them from the manufacturer’s respective websites.

buy both, you sound rich :D

for that price you could buy a whole rack of lexicon fx which in my opinion are the best sounding ,or you could buy 2 digitech 4 channel boxes,

If you want really good reverb, spend your money on a house extension and a speaker and a microphone, and then you can have real reverb.

I know thats not practical, but anyway, lexicon is very good for the price. Digitech effects imho are disgusting (as a previous owner of a quad4). There is a very nice lexicon model, I forget which, about £400 worth, and it sounds convincing enough for me, but then who am I to judge?
