hello,

i need a comparison between these two as i'm in the process of getting a digital mixer/interface for my computer pretty soon

where can i find user reviews on these two?

i've heard there are compatibilty issues with the tascam.....i'm using cubase sx 1.01 and i've heard it works fine with this (anyone heard different)??

i'm leaning toward the tascam because it's cheaper, can anyone list pros and cons to each unit? (and if there's anything better that will work as a stand-alone mixer and a computer interface, let me know)

peace,

Again the tascam wont work as a proper standalone mixer, its just a fancy controller with an audio interface in it. Yes it works as a 18x2 standalone mixer but there is no EQ or FX or busses or anything. The O1x is a real mixer.

thanks mungo, you seem to be the only person who ever responds to my posts on this subject.....

can you think of any cheaper alternatives than the 01x? i'm also reluctant to buy it because it just came out (i want some history behind a product before i buy, especially if it's going to cost so much)

have you heard anything about the roland si-24?? i've heard that it doesn't work as a stand-alone mixer though.....but it's so much cheaper than the 01x or the fw1884 (and the digi 002)

what i mainly need is:
1) a mixer to hook my hardware and computer stuff up and
2) a controller to record stuff off my mpc, etc into my computer and control cubase sx

what's the benefit of having a stand-alone mixer if i'm going to use it to record into my computer anyway? i'll still be able to link up my hardware into the roland si-24 even if my computer's not on right? sorry if it's a dumb question.....

yamaha 01v is an alternative if you dont care much about the audio interface part (sound card) there is also the 03D thats pretty cheap.

Well think if you need all the power of the 01x, if you currently just use a software mixer and you get the results you want then why change? They will both be excellent controllers and the tascam is expandable which is a plus.

You dont actually need a mixer, any multi i/o card will be fine but the combination multi i/o and controller seems to be ideal for you.

If you dont use dynamics and EQ on every channel or need a live mixer then the 01x will be mostly wasted on you, the more you post on the matter the more it seems the tascam is the one for you.

in theory the 01X is expandable in the input sense at least, you can route an mLan interface into it and add up to 24 more inputs.

Have you heard of the event ezbus? top class bit of kit, let down by USB over firewire but this isn't an issue unless you intend to record more than 2 inputs at once. But it does operate as a stand alone mixer.

Tascam also do smaller takes on the FW1884, but again they only have USB are feeble as a stand alone mixer and frankly quite tacky.. that said the 8 channel version is still a bargain.
